Jeff Reese. We traded Doug Gilmour for him, so he must have been good!

Good old Reggie "Let em in".
he is ok but slim pickings for third overall all right.
Don Edwards was a pretty big disappointment for how well he played before and the fact that flames gave two first round picks to solve this perceived area of weakness.
Calgary Flames pretty jinxed on this topic.
almost as jinxed as far as never picking higher than 5th overall - what are the odds

although i can't recall any of his Flames games, i loved Pat Riggin as a kid...no idea why though, it's weird.

Count me down for Freddie, fast Freddie with the save!! Its actually pretty tough to pick though. Even Turek was pretty decent for a stretch then I recall the big contract came and his play dropped off but I cant say the team in front of him really helped either.

Tabaracci was so close to being a great goalie. At times he looked amazing, but at others just wildly unorthodox and inconsistent.
My vote for 3rd goes to Brathwaite. He was a rare bright spot and gave us something to cheer for in the dark ages.
Turek was a nice guy and OK, but also very underwhelming and disappointing. He was made one of the highest paid goalies in the league by the Flames and never lived up to that. True that he negotiated a lower average salary, but it also added an extra year to the contract which was decent for a goalie whose trajectory was to be out of the league soon. I don't recall if he played that additional year in the NHL though. I think he opted to go back to Europe rather than be a back-up, so it did save the Flames money in the long run.
Although when you are still paying a back-up $2.5 million, you are paying a lot of money to "save" money. Not his fault and I don't blame him for signing the original contract that was offered to him, but it's hard not to see it as a failure at the time.
For full disclosure, I do not really recall Lemelin or Bouchard, but I understand that they were good goalies as well. I just can't relate my own experience with them.

Really not understanding the lack of love for Vernon in this thread.
Some of you need to hit up Youtube and be reminded of what he did in 89 in game 7 against the Canucks especially on OT.

He was also pretty sharp in Detroit for a while.
He wasn't a "shut out" goalie or a perennial Vezina goalie, but he was definitely a top 5 to 10 goalie for a large chunk of his career. I think he was runner-up for the Vezina once.
Honestly, I think it's Kipper, Vernon and then the rest.

There was lack of love for Vernon when he played for the Flames too. He wanted to be traded because the fans booing him was bothersome to his parents.

Man this thread is depressing. Approaching 40 years as a fan, and we have had 2 great goalies in that time.

Yeah but they both played for the Flames for 20 years each... No? Oh. 20 years total. Yeah that's depressing.

The goalie to round out the organizations top 3 of all time is either not here yet or is still developing.
We've had a cup winner, a Vezina winning star followed by a bunch of patch jobs.
Biggest team needs are goaltending and another top 6 RHed forward.
Hopefully we use our depth on defense to address these deficiencies in the offseason.
