If you don't like what EA is doing support the small hockey games like Super Blood Hockey.

Does NHL 19 have a FIFA: The Journey style 'storyline' part of the game?

Nhl 19
I always buy the release of NHL on the PS4, sell it around February/March...then wait a month for it to be released on EA Access for Xbox.

Unfortunately no. They say it's something they consider every year though.

Whelp, plus one on the realism. My first game is me losing every single faceoff to Boston.
But honestly, where was the day one patch that removed Brouwer from our roster? Lazy EA shipping an incomplete game...

I haven't had much time to play the game yet, but some interesting factoids for those on the fence or waiting until Friday.
Franchise Mode - I like the idea of where they were trying to go with scouting. It's taken them 6 or 7 years, but they have finally listened to their customers and tried to revamp one of the weakest parts of the mode. However, I can already see how this is going to be immensely cumbersome, especially if you want to do it right. I see myself spending more time in the scouting menu than should probably be necessary, but I'm willing to give it a try.
There is also a 'Fog of War' feature for professional players. That means that attributes for players on other teams and in the AHL are revealed only if you assign a scout to them. This is a switchable option, thankfully. While it presents a new challenge, it's not a realistic feature IMO. Any fan knows the general attributes and potential of any player in the league.
They have introduced the Player Search function from HUT into Franchise Mode. Awesome, and so useful.
Potential ratings have gone from a Red, Amber, Green indication to grey scale. I bet the colourblind people are loving that.
Customization is slightly better. There are some new logos to choose from in Create a Team, but otherwise there's not a whole bunch of change...team or player.
I have to play more to get a good sense of the game, but right now it feels like more the same in different wrapping. More game modes and features that I'll never use (CHEL, really? Why?).

Based on the trophies assigned to it, EA is really pushing CHEL too.

Right, where the hell did that come from and why is it a thing now? It's so dumb and I hate it, I really do

EASHL (I'm not using their stupid made up word) is the mode I play the most and has been since it's inception. If you've never played it before I highly recommend it especially this year with all of the positive changes they've made. Playing a team game with buds or even just participating in a drop in using the out door rink has been a blast.
Also surprisingly the sound track this year doesn't make me want to shove a fork into my ears, its actually not half bad with EA clearly spending some cash on relatively popular bands. Still I don't think I'll ever get that stupid "Shame, Shame, Shame" song from NHL 18 out of my head completely, lol.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. When I see it I picture a 10 year old saying it to try and be cool. You don't see Madden fans calling it "Den" and FIFA fans calling it "Fa".
"Let's go play Den"
"Wanna Fa?"

They're trying to throw things at the wall to see if they'll catch on and provide a new stream of monetization.
Which, please brainstorm a way to make GM Connected really profitable, because that's the only thing I actually want from them.

Make the Franchise and Be a Pro modes more robust. Make them feel like a worthwhile investment of time.
I never played it personally, but I definitely want to see them bring back and seriously enhance GM Connected. People want it, and I know a direct result will be a better Franchise mode as features are adapted from Connected.
Stop with the NHL 3s, Legends, and CHEL nonsense. They are dumb gimmicks to be focusing your energy and marketing budget on.
