Ya, I'm pretty sure Phaneuf and Sarich were playing through some pretty significant injuries too.

I do think the Flames go deep that year if healthy.

But they just weren't and then they overreacted a bit in the offseason and invested too much in defense.

The 2nd line was something like Bourque-Langkow-Bertuzzi IIRC. That was really fun. Unfortunately Kipper's performance the 2 Keenan years was uncharacteristically bad.

For all we know, the "big" story is that there IS and individual who doesn't want to play for whatever reason.....and hasn't been here all year because of it.
Woah! Are you suggesting Oliver is staying away because of Sutter?

For what it's worth, I have wondered that too.

If Sutter was the reason, Seravalli would be screaming it to the world already. The guy hates Sutter. I am sure it has nothing to do with that seeing as how Kylington was in the player assistance program as well. Plus, I doubt the Flames would continue to pay him if that was the case. He would have been suspended for sure.

Fair enough. I've been projecting and thinking that Oliver's situation is like when I've gone on a leave at work for burn out etc. So I wondered if the dots were connected. But they're likely not.

The only way I could see it, is if he has a doctors note saying he's suffering from an emotional breakdown.

I would be very surprised if Sutter was the reason, as Oliver really broke out under his tutelage. IMO the Tanev-Kylington pairing was arguably our best pairing last year. I was convinced we were witnessing the coming of Erik Karlsson 2.0.

That doesn't make a lot of sense as if it was the case why were the Flames holding on to hope that he would return this season?

I'm not suggesting that's the case, I was just commenting on how for a while now, especially Francis, has been dropping this "I know something that I wont tell you about quite yet" kind of comments and I just don't see the point of doing that. He's not protecting anyone or anything, just creating more unhealthy speculation.
If its that sensitive, don't say anything until you are ready to release the story I guess.

I think it's more likely it's something like a shouting match between Sutter and Tre and not wanting to burn bridges with the Org while they're in season.

I think Kylington was on record saying that he really liked Sutter because they see the game the same way.

There is no way Treliving would agree to a player not playing for those reasons. That would likely cause legal issues with the league snd his contractual obligations. Pretty sure Kylington has strong valid reasosns that he has been out this long and it has nothing to do with the coach. If anything Sutter is a fan of Kylington and what he brings to the team.

I am pretty sure that Klyington is on record saying he likes Sutter. He mentioned that they see the game the same way. I dont' think Sutter has anything to do with the absence.

BT's contract means absolutely nothing in regards to his relationship with Sutter. Maybe he wants a new challenge? Maybe they couldn't agree on term and price? Maybe he wanted to focus on everything else because there is plenty of time to get it done after the season is over. Also, provide links for these people who work in hockey operations for the Flames that have disclosed their is a rift between Sutter and BT. We all must have missed those articles.

I see you didn't catch earlier when I said fair enough.

It was def a thinking out loud, responding the other poster. But at end of the day it's none of our business. But it's human nature to fill in the space we don't know, I should be better about fighting that impulse.

I think we can all agree Eric and Frank are gossip girls.

They get scoops when someone deems them a useful idiot to leak something out. They are not what i’d consider journalists. I guess that’s why they are called analysts.
