Dan Williams, everyone. I'm not sure if the addiction plan stands a chance in hell of working or not, but holly #### is this dude every arrogant. And arrogance rarely leads to long term success, becuase you don't let facts and results guide you.
I just love his stance of how it's the leftist thinking that got us here and leftist policies and left this and left that, said with a straight face despite the fact that we've had a conservative government here his entire life outside of 4 years. He even managed to work Trudeau into it somehow
I actually don't mind the idea one bit, I mean it's just an idea for now, we'll have to see how the actual law is worded to really be able to say. But the absolute arrogance dripping from his words is just incredible. Someone give him a glass a milk and a timeout, what a baby

Like, why are politicians so angry all the time now? Why can't he be an adult and just say "This is our plan, this is why we think it'll work" instead of turning into it a big left vs right shouting match. Someone's watched too many Trump speeches

Ya, not against trying something different, but their firm stance against safe supply is dumb, and there is no reason you can't do both.

Exactly. Not doing both has always been the problem. Safe supply is a good idea, but there has to be a way out. Likewise, just ditching safe supply is going to cost lives
Do you like the idea of an Alberta pension plan yet?
Probably not. A poll early this year showed only 21 per cent of Albertans back the UCP’s pet project. Other reactions range from disinterest to terror.
When the election campaign came along, the UCP left the pension scheme out of their platform. The NDP happily used it as a scare trigger.
Post-election, the drive for a provincial pension plan is fully revived.
It's a good thing we are wasting time and money on this stupidity, when so few Albertans support it. "BuT wE HaVe a MaNdAtE!" She bleats, after refusing to discuss the issue during the election, due to it's deep unpopularity.
Thanks again, UCP voters. Democracy at work, I guess.

Send them to treatment isn't really an idea. It's either the very germination of what could become an idea or it's a stupid person's notion of an idea. Either way, I wouldn't be calling the newspaper... Halt the presses! I had an idea!
What is the funding model? What are the facilities? If it's mandatory, is there any recourse or defense? Or are we just foregoing a pillar of our justice system? You can't, I'm assuming, give a police officer the authority to send people to mandatory rehab prisons. That can't be the idea, can it?

Judge Dredd finds the idea intriguing.

That's definitely my main issue with the article, the actual policy gets half a sentence then the rest is just childish ranting and raving.
The one thing it does say is it would be some sort of special judge that dictates it. Definitely need more details to really comment, which begs the question, wtf kind of announcement is that

I don't think the article was meant to be anything other than a platform for his stupid rant, frankly.
But we can all agree that the current approach without some sort of mandatory treatment for offenders is not working. It's a shame the article was of so little substance.

well they backed off on the provincial police farce; hope the funk they back off on this as well...
still mystified so many Albertans thought/think UCP was the best option...

democraziness...
I don't buy that they backed off the provincial police force at all. They are just going to do it a bit less loudly by expanding Sheriffs through their term, to the point where they rename the Sheriffs the APP once the size gets big enough. Or maybe I'm just to cynical.

Ya it's not even a remotely relevant consideration until the capacity to treat people actually exists. If five people willingly seek addiction treatment today in Calgary, maybe one of them will actually get some help.
Alberta is pausing all approvals for new wind and solar power projects larger than one megawatt for the next six months, as it reviews where they can be built, how the surge in renewables affects the province’s power grid and rules about what happens to installations when they reach the end of their life.
I get the concern over the grid, if that's the real concern. But in the context of the well reclamation boondoggle vs installations that are extremely easy to take apart and haul away.........

One key argument is that Alberta’s young, relatively high-earning populace already contributes massively to the CPP, while Alberta seniors are paid pensions on the same scale as other Canadians.
Someone clarify if I'm wrong here.... but doesn't every Canadian pay the same into CPP? Why is there a belief high-earning people in Alberta are paying more, but then say we only get the same as everyone else does in Canada. The contribution limit is the same no?

I think (and maybe I'm mistaken), that they're referencing the fact that Alberta has a much higher proportion of young people paying max CPP contributions. Because of that they have less seniors and therefore a smaller piece of the overall payouts.

But isn't it the case that the amount you get depends on how much you've paid into it? I don't see the unfairness.
