From St. Louis' side, you would want to keep as much of your top talent as possible in order to win a cup - especially players on good contracts. That's understandable.

Lucky for Calgary, there are other teams that Tkachuk is willing to go and sign a long-term deal with.

Lindholm - Thomas - Backlund down the middle honestly probably keeps us competitive.

Thomas just after he signed an 8-year extension (that doesn't even start for another year) would be interesting (and ensure no one ever signed an early long-term extension with the Blues).

If they're willing to move him, it would definitely put them in the lead in my mind.

How is Thomas one for one not a win?

Thomas is one of the best young centers in the game. No chance we get him-he's practically a better player than Tkachuk already, and plays a more important position.

Dumba was born in Regina, but they moved to Calgary when he was very young (his brother, who's 3 years younger, was born in Calgary). I'm pretty sure he considers Calgary his hometown.

Robertsfanatic must be for a huge Robert fan in general to think Robert Thomas for Matthew Tkachuk is a win.

Robert Thomas is not even in the top 20 centres in the league.

This is the Thomas who has 42 goals in 241 career games being traded for Tkachuk who had 42 goals last season. That is the guy who would allow the Flames to win the Tkachuk trade on a one for one basis right?

Fair - Laine was to correct for a delta between Bratt and Mangi, but TBH I didn't think hard enough about Bratt vs. Mangi...Bratt's slightly better numbers can be mostly explained deployment;

Bratt is 2 yrs younger and IMO still a more valuable asset than Mangi, but the difference definitely isn't as big as Tkachuk to Laine. So nevermind.

Are you the President of the Robert Thomas booster club? Love how every other teams players are the best players in the league and the Flames players are rubbish.

Tkachuk was a top 7 player in the league last season. Let's stop discounting that like he's yesterday's trash to the rest of the league.

The pest and name recognition factors probably boost that even more.

Some teams like St Louis will have emotion playing into making a bid for this player.

Is Yzerman dumb enough to give up Raymond +?
Raymond is the kind of young player that could make this trade a real win.

23 yo ppg C. If he isn't top 20 yet, he will be soon.

Tkachuk is somewhere between 11th-15th among wingers. Though you can probably bump him up a slot now that Gaudreau is devil incarnate here.

Definitely better:
Nikita Kucherov
Patrick Kane
Alex Ovechkin
David Pastrnak
Kirill Kaprizov

Jonathan Huberdeau
Artemi Panarin
Johnny Gaudreau
Mitchell Marner
Mikko Rantanen

Thomas had 77pts in 72 games last year, good for 17th in scoring for centers, and 12th in ppg. His two-way game is exceptional. You're out to lunch.
