Which sucks for us.
And I don't know why they keep ramming this Nieuwendyk crap down our throats.

^ How recent are those Nieuwendyk rumours Sureloss? According to Friedmans latest 30 thoughts article he said no as he doesn't want to uproot his family, and that we've been granted permission to talk to Benning?

I think TSN's connection aren't as deep with Feaster gone, so they're just recycling old news. We've heard several times that Nieuwendyk is not interested in the Calgary job

It was Nick "literally knocked out of the league" Kypreos that said it on the SN intermission.

Don't worry all, we'll end up with some of that stellar Leafs management staff.

More conflicting reports than usual here--Friedman says the Flames have permission to talk to Benning, and that Nieuwendyk turned us down. Everyone around the league says Burke's talked with both Loiselle and Poulin. Most also say LA isn't giving permission for Futa. But Shannon says Futa is interviewing for Buffalo. McKeznie says Flames haven't talked to Nieuwendyk or anyone else yet.
Conclusion: nobody knows anything.

Which is shrug-worthy, but it's still better than the management we had.

Truly my biggest concern with this search. Feaster and Hartley were hired without much of a search. I hope Burke doesn't settle with one of his former colleagues from the Leafs. There's so many other intriguing options.

I don't want better than we had, I want good in comparison to the rest of the league. We always compare ourselves to what we used to have here and not what we're competing against.

Good, a nod back to the Sutter-era secrecy shroud.
Feaster was about as leaky as the knobs up the QE2, in both cases trying to stay on the good side of the media and use them as a tool, when in reality, more often than not, it backfired in some form.

The Leafs have good people in executive positions. Not sure what kind of point you're getting at.
I mean, the Leafs are stupid and awful and everyone should hate them, but both Burke and Poulin are well respected individuals league-wide. Not a bad thing having the two if that's how it shakes down. Certainly fits into your "good in comparison to the rest of the league" desire.

I feel that the staffers from the Kings, Preds and Coyotes have done more with less that the Leafs staff. The Leafs made the playoffs last year, but they're not a good team, and I'd rather not import more of the staff that put them together.
Also, Burke talked about the GM search like it was going to take the time it took to find the right people, going back and taking a guy from his last job just seems like the easy way out in my opinion.

I think that's true if he hires Poulin in the next few days here, but it's possible that we don't have a new GM until June, and at that point can we really say he didn't conduct a thorough search even if Poulin IS the guy?
I agree with you about LA, but Nashville and Phoenix aren't all that good. Certainly not bad by any means, but it's tough to say the executives from those teams are distinctly ahead of the executives from the Leafs.
Personally, if it's not Futa or Benning, then I don't think we got the best guy. Everyone else is pretty close, so taking Poulin over the others wouldn't bother me. As long as Nieuwendyk and Regier aren't the guy, then I'm good.

I hope it doesn't wait until June just to have someone in place well before the draft. I don't trust Burke's draft history, at all, but if he handled the GM duties through the trade deadline (where I think he's more proven) I'd be okay.

Phoenix is easily better than Toronto and I'd say that the Preds do not bad with a severely limited budget in comparison to the Leafs
I'm in the camp that I'd rather it take until June instead of rushing. We need this to be right ... it has to be right.

Fully agree. Our scouts are all in place, Burke is great in trades, there is no real reason to rush this and hire someone because they're there. If the right guy isn't available right now, wait until June and hire who you really want.
