Good glazing could go a long way on it, and I wouldn't mind it that much as a 'filler' tower, but agreed it would be a missed opportunity not to do something much more iconic for that site. The podium looks really tacked on.

The one good thing about impending sub $80 oil is that thing will never get built.

That's been the assumption (Brookfield Place is only 56 btw). Not by much though most likely.

Chances are the glazing will look very similar to Eight Avenue Place (the two towers recently built near Bankers Hall). Same architect, who has a fairly consistent (and conservative) style.

Same architect? For this new Oxford building?

Both this building and EAP are Pickard Chilton.

This is something Edmonton would be creaming their acid washed jeans for.

Whatever gets built here needs to be taller than "The Edmontonian" (assuming it would not violate the shadowing laws).

A basic suburban strip-mall would be taller than the Edmontonian, because only one of them ever has the chance to exist in reality.

It's kind of "meh", not the worst thing out there but definitely not the most creative. Looks like one of those revival designs from original drawings done in the 1990s. A wasted opportunity if you ask me, given its incredibly central location in downtown.
I will wait for the Telus Sky building to be completed to set a new standard of skyscraper design in Calgary though.

Have you seen the latest renderings? It's already uglier than it was supposed to be

But it would be great if our real buildings were taller than their imaginary ones.

Perhaps you saw the old design? That one was much more podium and 1990's looking with a strange castle fence/wall and general barf around the property. I'm glad it's more terraced/futuristic now.

Is the poor Courthouse Park (great place to have lunch!) going to get destroyed by this thing's shadow?

It shouldn't. The building is north of that park.

No, that's the very old design from the original land use. I saw the latest DP.

All the "seams" (I don't know the actual name for this part) around the windows are black now instead of the white that they had in original renderings. It comes across much less ethereal

It's possible that the Stantec Tower will be taller than anything current or committed to in Calgary, including Brookfield.
The developers are being coy about the ultimate height.
