This person is worse than Eklund. At least Eklund does *some* thinking about the needs of the teams he's proposing to make trades with.
This person is proposing that we trade our only signed, functional RHD.

Yes, it has occasionally happened, but it is extremely rare for a team to sign a player to a long-term extension mid-season, and then to trade him away before the extension kicks in. Andersson signed his contract on 8 January.
What a dumb rumour.

And the author floats it not just as being pretty reasonable, but worded the tweet almost like this was just about complete.
I can't imagine it's even been discussed. LOL

Evan Bouchard signs in Allsvenskan (Swedish second league) according to aftonbladet (Swedish news paper). They say it’s a loan so I guess Deadmonton still have his rights.
Wasn’t he the next Bobby Orr?

Because some of the European leagues are starting up soon (or, in the case of the KHL, have already started), and the NHL's 2020-21 start date is unknown at this time, we'll likely see more than a few players under NHL contracts being loaned to European clubs over the next while. Whenever the NHL/AHL seasons get going this fall/winter (if they do), these players will return to North America.
It's not unlike the lockout years.

He probably gets a bump in development being away from the Oilers.

Norm!

It'll be interesting to see if his biggest weakness (skating, first step and edge work) can be improved on the bigger ice surface.

This is actually pretty smart. That means he's going to get some playing time in and in a decent league. He was likely headed to the AHL this season to learn how to skate and play defense, so with the AHL likely not a go, this will give him the development time he needs. Maybe the Flames can do the same with a few of their prospects.

I just took a look at Evan Bouchard and Phillip Broberg on hockeyprospecting.com
Bouchard looks like a pretty good pick at 10, but what the !@#$ was Edmonton thinking with the Broberg pick at 8th OA? I see The Athletic's Scott Wheeler has also dumped on the pick.
Good job Oilers!

Who knows how he will develop, but I chalk this up to classic "oilers are the smartest in the room" syndrome. Soderstrom went a few picks later and out performed Broberg at every level they played together.
Meanwhile Dobson and Ty Smith both look better than Bouchard from the year before.
Oil gonna oil!

God I was mortified when the Canucks had him as the third best d-man available after Quinn Hughes.
He can't ####ing skate!

Honestly I'm happy Edmonton seems to have soured on him, I think if were to get moved to another team he would do well.
I was curious about his development so watched some AHL highlights of his and his skating while not great doesn't seem to be as much of an issue IMO. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4_cfYEKH0Q)
Watching his highlights and he actually reminds me a lot of Rasmus Andersson.
Not the most fleet of foot but gets where he needs to be. Has a great shot, good hockey sense, and a great stick.
I hope the Oilers do the Oilers thing and fall in love with Broberg and then actually trade Bouchard too soon since he likely the better of the two. Bouchard wasn't a Holland pick either so I could see it happening.

The guy would lose a footrace with Lucic. His skating was his weakness at the draft and he has done nothing to address it.

I don't think they have soured on him at all. Oilers have loaned several prospects to European teams recently. With nowhere to play (ie AHL) this fall they may as well get them some playing time somewhere. Are other teams not doing this?

Not this but more in the bubble.
They played Broberg and others ahead of Bouchard when they needed d help.
And there were some inklings that the team thought that Broberg has surpassed Bouchard and that he was the better prospect now.

This is where the Oilers are in trouble, they desperately need to develop a 1-2 dman if they want to be effective. Both of those picks aren't exactly trending that way. They really reached and traded Hall for Larsson to try and fix the gap they had and that didn't exactly turn out well. A few years later and they are still spinning their tires while the years keep ticking off the McDavid contract.
Realistically, they are probably a few years away from having that elite dman, unless the blind squirrel finds a nut. McDavid will be on the back half of his 8 contract and probably debatable if he is still an Oiler if things trend the same way.

Not sure why you'd leave Russia for Edmonton.
