Flames better not offer sheet anybody that costs them their 2026 1st.
We all know the Flames luck, they do that and all of a sudden McKenna gets selected with our 1st round pick.

Its early, but I can promise you that the Flames will not be risking picks for crazy UFA contracts in either of the following 2 drafts (McKenna/Dupont)
Calgary's obviously been keeping an eye on Mickey's kid for years, and well... who doesn't know how good McKenna is.

That article is talking like McTavish has topped out, but he’s only 22 ffs. I would love it if we could find a way to trade for him without giving up a first-rounder next year, but I don’t see that happening.

Imagine being where the Ducks are and giving up a 22 yo player like McTavish because "Well, we already have Ryan Strome."

Exactly. And Byfield is on the trade market too, don't forget.
Athletic was not worth the $1/month I was paying for it. Absolute trash.

Bouque wouldn't require a 1st in an offersheet I believe. They should make that happen.

I wouldn't.
Top talent on ELCs are a big part of winning and their first RFA contract.
Overpaying McTavish to an offersheet that Anaheim won't match and giving up a 1st and a 3rd when you potentially are giving up a lottery pick is a bad decision.

I think the flames need to figure out what they are doing with their veterans. If they are keeping them all there wont be any bottoming out I dont think. I think we will be hard pressed even with wolf being what he has shown to be. I think a Mctavish offersheet would be amazing.

Best part about a Mctavish sheet would be posters shutting up about purposely tanking. Imagine the entire fanbase wanting the team to win games!!

The Flames are now in a weird spot with Wolf though and McTavish would be their best chance at getting a center that fits their timeframe with Wolf. I really don't see the Flames being a bottom 5 team next year. I'll take McTavish over the mystery box

The worst thing the team could do is trade draft capital for players over 25.
If there’s another frost/farabee trade available that would be a good use of their draft capital. Using offer sheets on anyone worthy of using a first should be completely off the table. It also doesn’t make a lot of sense using offer sheets for us specifically because the teams that have good rfas are run well and would likely match. Offer sheets generally are only a good idea if your team is a playoff or near calibre team.
What I would like to see is the exploration of trading off a number of vets and try to sign a center and maybe a veteran 4/5 and backup goalie like Jake Allen.

Flames are a top center away. They have a plethora of very good prospects or young NHLers on both wings and on D.

Lots of team suck with top goaltending. Wolf numbers have had a drop off.
McTavish isn’t enough of a needle mover to go all in on. Absolutely ridiculous.

Realistically the Flames are 4 or 5 good players away from being a playoff team. It’s hard to get those without overpaying

They are a #1C away right now, IF Parekh hits his full potential.
If they somehow miraculously found an 18yo in this year's draft with that kind of upside, it would be about four or five years before that player was "complete" enough to be the #1C we're short.
Now five years from now, Kadri and Huberdeau will be washed.
So we'll also be a #1W and a #2C away.
And Backlund will be washed.
So we'll also be a #2/3C away.
And Weegar will be washed
So we'll also be a #2D away.
And that's all assuming Wolf maintains his level, guys like Klapka, Pospisil, Zary, Coronato stay healthy and maintain or up their level and remain contractually attractive.
...We're really far away. Because we're not getting that #1C in this year's draft anyways.

They got Wolf, Parekh is about as good of a D prospect you can get, and still me decent options on the wings. They have no #1Cs in the pool at all and will be in tough get any if they stay out of the top 5.
