The release of the iphone7 was the straw that broke the camels back for me. Getting rid of the headphone jack so they could use their own product is a huge money grab and I will never buy any other iPhone again. I rather burn my house down than give Apple another penny. Here I come Samsung!
Honestly it's idiots like me who support the trash Apple keeps producing and I will not stand for it anymore.

I've already junked a ton of peripherals from the iPhone 3-4 days because of the 16 pin to lighting jack upgrade
I agree with the rest of your points, and as handy as iMessage is with my family (and the rest of my devices), I very may well switch back to android for my next phone.
However the lightning cable argument always bugs me. The 30-pin connector was 11 years old when they dropped it. In the same time span cell phones saw micro, mini, and USB-C connections. IMO the fact that it was that old was a large part of the reason there were so many available peripherals. It wasn't a 2 year-old cable that they just decided to switch.
As to the headphone port issue, and everyone who thinks wired headphones are archaic, what about air travel? I always assumed bluetooth was something that was *supposed* to be shut off-in air, and secondly, I already carry a battery pack when traveling. The last thing I want to do is add another freaking device I need to charge (and remember to charge), because I don't want to be the dude freaking out his seat doesn't have a plug-in, or sitting on the bathroom floor in the airport during a layover because that's where the only available plug-in is.

You tell them! You will love the quality Samsung phones just ensure you don't pick the ones that blow up.

The 30 pin connector was outdated and sucked. End of story. Anyone complaining about the switch to the lightning connector is being silly. It's laughable the how some people pile on Apple for advancing technology. How many people have component cables in their basement collecting dust due to being replaced by HDMI? Technology is always advancing and people accept it unless it's Apple making changes. Why would anyone complain about an outdated, inconvenient connecter being replaced by a smaller and much easier to use connector?

It wasn't the change from the 30 pin, it was the change to a proprietary connector that was the issue. I'd be nice if the same cables that charged my phone charged my iPad. Don't know why that's hard to understand. I'd love to live in a wireless world but it's a painful transition.

Although wiki seems to have the dates off. I thought the original iPod used the same connection?
The Wiki article also has this

The Samsung Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Note 30-pin dock/charging connector is very similar to - although not identical with - the non-proprietary PDMI connector. It is unrelated to the Apple 30-pin connector.
Here are the two side-by-side, always thought they were the same.
My IP67 Samsung has 4 physical buttons. My waterproof Casio watch from 1991 has physical buttons. Another claim that doesn't hold water. Apple is free to change everything they want to but I don't appreciate the falsehoods they are spreading among consumers.
I see what you did there.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
I can't see the Airpods becoming a hugely successfully product. Only 5 hours of battery life seems like a huge limitation. Does the charging box hold a charge so that the pods can be charged on the run or does the box have to be plugged in to charge the earphones?
Was going to upgrade my iPhone 6 to the 7, but it's $400 on a 2 year plan for the iPhone with the lowest storage space. This is insane. Pretty sure I paid $275 for my iPhone 6 the day it was released on a 2 year plan.

CAD/USD has weakened significantly since the 6 was released. I think the 7 is priced more or less the same in the US as the 6 when it came out.
I'm actually really looking forward to see how this "no headphone jack" thing is going to pan out! I think there's lotsof untapped potential by combining the audio into the Lightning connector. Multi-channel audio? VR headset? who knows, but I'm interested to see it play out.
That being said, I think I'll be waiting until next year to upgrade, the 6+ is still holding strong for me and my gut feeling is next year they'll present something interesting for the 10yr anniversary of the iPhone.
I like the idea that this is to ease customers off the headphone jack for some bigger things in the future.
How good are the Apple watches without an accompanying iPhone? Meaning, could I do many useful things if I left my phone at home while out with the watch only?
My bad if it's been mentioned, but is there any kind of lightning splitter that would allow charging and headphones simultaneously? Not sure if that would be logistically possible.

Not really, no. They rely on the connection to the phone to be useful as smart watches, else it's just a good looking fitness tracker and actual watch.

.
Belkin released a two lightning from one lightning accessory already which would allow someone to charge and use their lightning to 3.5mm. I imagine tons more will come.

Ahh. Guess I could have just Googled. That looks irritating though to less with normal headphones as you now need two extra things - your 3.5 mm adapter into the splitter. Somebody ought to make one that integrates the splitter with a charger and a 3.5 mm adapter as one unit, and I bet it'd sell.
