Mine is prepared for shipment as well. I will be more intolerable than usual this week.

Edit: Shipped! It says delivered by May 31 ... Hopefully that's similar to most Apple shipments I get where they usually aim quite high on the ship date.

Mine said that too, but FedEx reports delivery estimated for Friday.

I don't know if they're doing the same thing in Canada or not... but when they released in the US, Apple pre-shipped orders to local delivery locations, so they could all be next-day shipped for launch day.

Wired Magazine just launched their iPad edition. Looks pretty cool.

http://www.wired.com/magazine/2010/0...ditors_letter/

And at 527MB it's a pretty seriously sized app too. I assume the $4.99 cost is per issue.

Americans were pretty freaked out that 2 days prior to launch their iPads were still in Shenzhen China and they managed to get them on the launch day. Here we are 2 days before launch and I see mine is still there too. In transit, but still in China.

I like the price point ... it sounds like a lot of skill went into it.

I played around with a bit in the Apple store in Chicago over the weekend. Meh. Seems to lack the practicality and usability of a laptop, but is also too big to have the portability (and phone) benefits of the iPhone.

It's pretty slick. There is a lot more content than some of the other magazines I've purchased for the iPad (Popular Science, Time, GQ).

There are also a lot more ads. They've obviously had more time to get their ducks in a row for their advertisers.

Navigation isn't nearly as nice as Popular Science. It is a little inconsistent. Many times I didn't realize I had to scroll down to view more articles. It seemed like they said "OK. This article will be read this way. This one, this way. Let's try this style out."

That being said, magazines on the iPad are the only way to go for me now. I won't be buying the printed version anymore. You just get much more bang for your buck with the iPad version. Videos, high resolution stand-alone photos from the articles, hyperlinks to products within advertisements. I find myself actually reading the ads to see what they're offering for extra content.

They have to bring the price down though, or offer subscriptions.

I think if they are offering more than the print version then I think the price is justified. And it does look like they are offering more. Although it looks like some magazines and newspapers are offering the exact same thing as the print version and yet are charging more. That makes no sense and is totally not justified.

I agree about the subscriptions, and it should obviously come at a discount versus buying each mag individually.

Yeah but think of the costs associated with physical paper magazines - ink, paper, distribution, etc. I bet the costs with the e-versions are way less.

Of course. But if they are putting in animation, video, audio and other things that wouldn't be in the print version I think the increase in price is justified.

Or....unless you are saying that the cost of those things should offset the additional cost of the extras...well then, I honestly don't know. I have no idea what those things cost. They still have to distribute it, no? Who provides the bandwidth? Apple or Wired? 527MB is a big file.

Of course another reason for lowering the price would be to try to save their industry that is dieing.

Looks like the dedicated ipad section of itunes (on your computer) is up now. Clicking on the apps link takes you to the iphone area, but there is a toggle at the top to look at the ipad stuff.

Okay I didn't realize that the magazine costs less than $1 per issue if you subscribe, I thought it was more. Yeah $5 is too much. I can still see it costing slightly more than the print version, but not 5 times as much.

Holy god. Never thought I'd see the day. iTunes gift cards now work for apps in the app store. http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/iphone-...hone+Users!%29

Edit: Hopefully this isn't just an unexpected glitch from bringing the iPad App store online in Canadian iTunes. I haven't seen any recent legal changes in Canada that would suddenly allow for this change to take place.

I read recently that Apple was possibly violating the Fair Trading Act for not disclosing clearly that the cards couldn't be used to purchase apps. I'm not sure if this pressured them to change the policy, but it's definitely good news.

After having the iPad for a while, here are a few apps I can safely recommend to new users about to get theirs (Paid apps since you can try free ones at your will)

VNC: iTeleport (Needs a little more configuration then LogmeIn, but i prefer it as an app, however LogmeIn's is pretty good too)
Game: Hotel Mogul HD, Zombieville HD, Plants vs Zombies HD
Organizer app: ToDo (5$ and beautiful- compared to 20$ Things)
Must Haves: Air Video HD(stream your videos!), GoodReader, iThoughtsHD (if you like mindmapping software), PenUltimate

The iWork set is decent- don't expect it to be a full desktop style- the first updates recently came out and they are improving it.

Just a little heads up to people considering those

An app to make your ipad into a second monitor.

The touch screen apparently works.
