I think McDavid was actually being self-deprecating and deferring to Crosby doing it on the bigger Olympic stage.

Completely agree. I don’t think McMuffin was throwing shade at ‘the little tournament’ everyone knows next year is the big one. No need to twist it into something it’s not.

Even if Connor says it’s not that big of a goal the comparisons to the 2010 Olympics is sickening. I’m sure Ron will have something special tomorrow for the greatest goal in Canadian history.

I haven't seen it discussed but Calgary native Cale Makar at 26 now has in his resume:
-Hobey Baker Award
-World Junior Gold
-Calder Trophy
-Stanley Cup
-Conn Smythe Trophy
-Norris Trophy
-4 Nations Championship

Man I remember Makar’s first game in the NHL. He made an immediate impact for COL in that playoff series against the Flames.

Hope to see him in a Flames jersey someday. The sooner the better.

Makar is a game changer.

Hard to choose but I think I would take him or MacKinnon over McDoofus if I’m building a championship team.

Dude this is so wrong. I am old enough to remember the climate around Sid the kid before the Olympics and after. Alot of fans hated him to at the time said nearly the exact same things. He's weak, a diver and whiner he is Sidney crybaby. But I tell ya man . I was at the Vacouver Olympics. No one gave 2 shots that he popped that golden goal in . No one cared after words that he was a whiner etc and all the coverage he got after the Olympics. He was Canadian and wore that jersey with Canadian pride to win it all.

I'm no Mcdavid lover but he went to war ( figuratively) for his country and became a national hero. During the rest of the year his enemy # 1. I cheer for the jersey not the name. I also hate Marchand ,Wilson l, Hyman ,Doughty etc but If they suit up in the red maple leaf Their Canadian above all else. My tibialisim for individual civic states go out the door and is replaced with nationlist pride for Canada.

If war did break out I'd still wanna protect Edmonton (as much as I loathe that city ). But that's still a peice of Canada 🇨🇦 . I'd protect a peice of Canada over any dictator led USA town any day of the week.

I agree with your point, but not your assessment of Crosby. I, like most, considered him to be not only a great leader, but a class act and a national treasure (within the world of hockey) right from the get-go. Starting with the World Juniors.

Yeah, I don't think he was being self-deprecating nor do I think he was belittling the tournament; what he was doing is wisely putting it into perspective.

I agree with the gist of your statement but national hero? More like the media are trying to make him into something he's not, same as before.

If he didn't score the GWG everyone would be talking about how he's a big game choker. Binnington was more the hero of the game and the tournament MVP was not him.

Needs to add Olympic gold medal. 4 Nations was fun but Olympics is definitely the big one.

But he did score the GWG, and he gave the country one of its most consequential victories in its entire history of international play.

He is a national hero.

For once, he’s ours too.

Just enjoy it and be grateful.

He was absolute garbage all game until he was set up perfectly infront of the net. Mcdavid was more of a liability in a game the US probably should have won. Then just ended up in the right place at the right time.

Binnington was the hero of the game by far.

He was, until he scored the GWG.

Sid had a crap tournament in 2010 as well, everybody forgets.

Binnington’s save on Tkachuk should be on a stamp, and the glove save on Matthews should be on money.

McDavid still did his bit when it mattered, and sealed what has to be a top-5 victory for Canada in international competition.

The GWG will be played to death by Sportsnet, just like The Bat Flip.
