Take away the PP's and the oilers would be boarding a flight to LA tonight

On that note, why does LA suck terribly at penalty killing

Haha it's so true.

stang/Oil Fan/whoever: "Oilers are a top 5 on 5 team now! That narrative is no longer true!"

Kings: Out-score Oilers 5 on 5 despite putting up a terrible series.

Can't even out-even strength the worst playoff team. That narrative is still very much alive and kicking, sweatpants bro.

Still think Kings in 5? They are horrible lol.

Unfortunately more rest now for the Oilers. And if Demko is hurt another bye to the conference finals with even more rest.

It is annoying.

They'll need quite the landslide advantage in PPs to overcome whoever comes out of the central, if they make it past Vancouver's bulletproof PDO.

Like half of the game needs to be the other team killing penalties, just to keep them from skating in the Oilers end and filling their net.

The league is run by gambling companies now. They will try to get the result they want.

Just saw the scores from tonight. I see the McPP kings had 5 PPs to the Kings’ 1. Yup, that sounds about right. Bunch of pretenders. Can’t wait to see these losers get smoked by a real team.

That'll take a lot of dives.

But I'm sure that the officials in conjunction with the Oilers will give it their very best shot.

Yup. Thing is with the grease, their "strategy" of "give pp pls or i cri" doesn't work against an actual contender because any contender will kill the penalty plus outplay them handily at 5v5. We've seen it McAvi's whole career. They can get cocky smoking a fringe playoff team like the Kings every year and waltz into the next round to get clobbered, it's almost funnier that way, especially how much more crushing it is for their stupid fanbase.

LA was one of three teams (along with Washington and Islanders) I felt were clearly a tier below any other playoff team.

Useless.

5v5 goals: 12-12
5v5 adjusted xG: 10.6-10.0 Kings
5v5 shots: 123-107 Kings
Powerplays: 20-12 Oilers
Per Natural Stattrick

Very abnormal to see such a penalty discrepancy in an evenly-played series at 5v5 like this as historically those metrics nicely correlate, as you would expect. Further, historically the team trailing in a given game earns powerplays more frequently than the leading team, exasperating the split.

As Elliotte Friedman says, to paraphrase, "The Oilers' arena is name after my employer and the League's largest sponsor, what do you expect me to do, criticize them?" Matching the Oilers at 5v5 is not enough given the pressure applied; it will take domination and/or a superb goaltending performance. Thankfully, whomever comes out of the Stars/Golden Knights/Avalanche pot will easily overcome that.

20 to 12 PP for Oilers.

Thankfully, historically penalties seem to go way down in games overall come round 2. We can only hope the trend continues.

Gets out-hustled 5 on 5 (except for game 3), gets 63% of the PPs.

I had a look.

LA got 28 penalties (14 in that 6-1 game)
EDM got 21 (13 in that 6-1 game)

Take that game away, and it was 14/LA to 8/EDM. They needed a nearly 2-1 advantage on the awarded PP's to beat LA.

One dimensional Team McPP indeed.

It does go down, generally speaking.
