Laine isn't in the same class as Tkachuk though. Maybe turn your gaze a different direction? Would you pay that price for Draisaitl, knowing you have a stocked cupboard of youth already on the team, and prospects that are capable of filling the holes on the team?

Hells yes I make that deal, especially if the draft pick is protected like so many are proposing. You take that best player that is going to make your top two centers scoring machines and you run. Without a doubt.

The only weakness the Devis have in their system is now in goal. They get that straightened out and they're going to be one scary team for the next decade.

There may be a handful of partners willing to work with the Flames on a Tkachuk trade, but who do you prefer?

No. No booing of Chucky. He feeds off that and loves it. Far more offensive to him if we greet him with massive indifference!

NJ for sure. After that St Louis providing Kyrou as a piece. The rest just don't interest me.

Bratt
Mercer
1st

For

Tkachuk

Blackwood
Graves
Holtz

For

Markstrom
Valimaki

If Flames did go full rebuild I feel like New Jersey could have interest in all of Tkachuk, Markstrom, and Hanifin.

The second overall, a prospect and a roster player was the NJD offer?

So it could have been Mercer and Shane Wright? hmmm

If Boldy is in play, Minnesota is interesting

Treliving needs to wait until they are about to pull the trigger before letting him negotiate with another team. And hopefully other teams on his list don't start leaking that they are interested, because if Tkachuk preferred one over the other, he could shorten his list.
This was my thought -- it is a very delicate negotiation from the Flames side.

On one hand, once Treliving has Tkachuk's confirmed list of teams he'd sign with, ideally he'll use that list to shop him around and get the highest offer. But if I'm one of those teams, I probably don't agree to a trade (or at least, be willing to pay top dollar) unless I know I can get a deal done that makes sense -- Tkachuk willing to sign with me for $12Mx7 doesn't mean anything if I'm only willing to pay $9M).

So either Treliving can say "you don't get to negotiate" and just take whatever offer is best, or ideally he can negotiate a deal in principle ("Matthew will sign for "x" for "y" years") and then shop that contract around like a sign and trade. At the very least he should have a ballpark in mind so that GM's know how much it will cost them at a minimum (fortunately, Tkachuk would have been able to negotiate with teams already during his offer sheet window so he should have an idea what the market is).

What you don't want to have happen is Tkachuk's camp playing teams off of each other and trying to manipulate a trade to the team that will pay Tkachuk the most, versus the team that gives Calgary the best return.

Watching another up and coming American star force his way off the team the first chance he gets would indeed be interesting.

I was actually thinking the same thing. Dead silence when he returns would be hilarious and probably the biggest middle finger in his mind.

I doubt Boldy would be the piece that Minnesota would be shopping.

I could see Dumba + Rossi + pick being offered though.

Could see the Flames liking that too…a piece for now they could likely sign since he’s from Regina and played in Red Deer.

And a high end prospect that could be a top 6 Center.

Wouldn’t be my preferred package but I could see them liking it.

Hopefully a lot of those aren’t contenders.
It also has to do with cap space. A trade in some ways is easier because the Flames can take cap back to make things work if necessary. I think I heard Seravelli say like 90% of the cap is already spent before free agency. At the end of the day, Gaudreau found out that teams weren't able to shed enough salary so he had a limited pool of teams.

This article states that the asking price is a top forward, a premium prospect and a 1st.

Also mentions Robert Thomas as a potential offer.

The Blues are not trading Thomas. How does that make sense for them?

Someone else suggested Markstrom sent to NJ too. Do you want a good 1st round pick or not? You want NJ to suck so the pick is higher, not help them get better.

Maybe they just value Kyrou over Thomas and it's as simple as that.
