Summer was catching up a bit in the last couple of years, but this winter is sure pulling ahead for power usage:

“Contrarian rants” lol
You guys are so weird about this topic. It’s going to be OK EE, I promise I won’t personally take away the existence of +30 for you regardless of my feelings on it. Go on and tell us about evolution some more little buddy.

can we please return this thread to weather updates instead of Festivus airing of grievances?
On topic: Saturday is no longer plus a zillion (+2, but even that would feel like the surface of the sun). -8 is the high and Christmas seems to be when the chinook kicks in. I'd bet that gets pushed another day and Xmas is -2 for a high. Just cold enough to feel like Christmas and it'll certainly be a white one....

Apologies for all the non-renewable 1s & 0s we wasted chit chatting in the most active thread right now.

Even his church group thought “gosh golly it sure looks like a white Christmas after all!” was a little cringe so now he’s trying to shame everyone here into listening to it.

That late June heat dome? We shattered records in Portland that week, topping out at 46.7C. Even as a heat lover, that waaaaay too hot. I did my runs at like 6/7am that week and it was 25-28 even that early.

Could be another tight one for energy supply today, Keephills #3 tripped offline this morning.
AESO has already sent out a grid alert, do what you can to reduce usage.

God, I love this exchange. I went and read it again this morning. Like, your little post was so harmless and positive. Just a short sentence about enjoying your day, being grateful while looking at the bright side (no wind) and then just saying it made you happy. How could that not make anybody smile. Probably one of the simplest and nicest things on here I've ever read.
..........and then Roger fataing freaked out on you for it. hahahaha. The actual best.

There is honestly nothing I like about this type of weather other than being a hermit inside. The driving sucks, prepping to go out sucks, everything feels like it's going to break when you start it up. It's dangerous to do anything outside. This weather sucks, but one of the things I bear with because I still like living in Calgary overall. +30 weather can't come quick enough.

I don't think AESO was planning on a plant that supplies ~463MW tripping off this morning.

Or wind producing 145MW of 3616MW installed capacity. That's a huge absence.

I never even heard of AESO until I saw the Nenshi tweet then wondered how much of a one-off this was. I guess it’s not really rare to get these grid warnings, which I suppose is simultaneously comforting and disconcerting.

Well yeah and I wasn't jumping to the conclusion that there was incompetence. But we did see these kinds of warnings for the past couple days, which is more why I was wondering.

I think AESO really needs to get out there more in the public consciousness and local media. I remember as a kid seeing advertisements in the transit buses about "avoiding the energy rush hour" and reducing use during peak times whenever possible.
