Driving through Northmount for decades, I always thought that roofline was a gas station. It's tucked into a corner so I never bothered going into there. Nobody I knew ever told me anything about it either even though I went to school close by (Simon Fraser, Churchill, etc.)

Oh, I wouldn't. I live like a block away from St. Francis, and a little ##### are everywhere. Where does one buy a machete?

Today I noticed that the Gamestop on the outside part of Westbrook Mall was shuttered for good.

The Chapters at Sunridge will be closing later this month. Frankly, I'm surprised it's still open. Any time I drive past it, there never seem to be any cars in the parking lot or customers coming or going.

Is there going to be any retail left beyond Costco and Walmart? Seems like we’re heading for a world of a city of just housing, warehouses and industrial zones.

Are they doing a big close out sale or anything like that?

Its a decent point, but its difficult in retail these days.
Rents and Commercial Real Estate costs are constantly escalating which puts brick and mortar retailers at enormous disadvantages compared to online retailers.

I live on a different continent and haven’t had CB fries since 1984, but I still tell people about them.

The commercial landlords have to be getting nervous about what businesses are going to be around to fill them.
We’ll only need so many weed shops.
Food is going big box fast food or ghost kitchen delivery. Clothing retail is hanging on by a thread. Even grocery is getting a lot of delivery orders that might as well come from the warehouse and not the store. Furniture has reached mostly warehouse level retail or flat pack. Bookstores will be gone.
Main streets will be banks, a cafe and a few bars.

And everyone will be laid off so no one will be able to support any businesses, brick and mortar or not. We’ll all just be slaves to like 3 companies and all jobs will be performed by AI.

I was surprised how small that location was compared to others I go to like Westhills, Dalhousie, and Crowfoot. And it felt like a larger percentage of Sunridge's footprint became children's, young adult books, and toys. Like half the store.

All the banks are closing branches rapidly as well. Most banking is going online.

Nah, the banks are wealth management centres. They don’t really want grandmas savings accounts, they want the investment accounts and that sort of thing.

Starbucks shut down many of their stores as well because apparently having a store on every street is not necessary.

They probably will in the week leading up to it closing, but I wouldn’t expect much of a deal on white sticker items. They’ll probably just try to clear out the bargain books, as the rest of the stuff can easily be moved into other stores or sent back to the supplier.

With the amount of fraud that happened with virtual-only deals, in person signing is back with a vengeance.
