My fury at his performance tonight has not dissipated.

In fact I think it's actually gotten worse since I've arrived back home.

Wow. Fury is a strong word.

Are you feeling something along the lines of intense, destructive rage?

Top place in the west.

Maybe it’s a choice of words thing.

If that were true that's not a good sign. If you're sick of being stuck in the minors then work your ass off and force the GM to give you a shot instead of just expecting it to be handed to you.

Mmmmm... pretty sure the Czech goalie is more responsible for that then Smith. Smith has a pretty average win lose record but don't get it twisted alot of those wins are teams WAY below Calgary mixed in with a few of those types of games where the back up plays phenomenal to steal one type games.

I expect his reasonong is highly specious. STK is just depleted of talent which dosen't help any goalie. Flamea depleted their draft picks so they could get to where they are now. I don't think any of CGY prospect goalies stats reflect the true picture.

Games this season where the Flames have scored two or less goals.

Mike Smith

10/3 - 5-2 loss to Vancouver
10/25 - 9-1 loss to Pittsburgh*
11/7 - 3-2 loss to Anaheim
11/11 - 3-1 loss to San Jose
11/15 - 3-2 loss to Montreal
12/6 - 2-0 win over Minnesota
12/22 - 3-1 loss to St. Louis
2/7 - 5-2 loss to San Jose*
2/14 - 3-2 loss to Florida
2/22 - 2-1 win over Anaheim
3/2 - 4-2 loss to Minnesota

David Rittich

10/23 - 3-2 loss to Montreal
10/25 - 9-1 loss to Pittsburgh*
10/30 - 2-1 win over Buffalo
11/10 - 1-0 win over LA
11/23 - 2-0 loss to Vegas
12/9 - 1-0 loss to Edmonton
12/15 - 2-1 win over Minnesota
12/18 - 2-0 loss to Dallas
12-29 - 3-2 loss to Vancouver
2/7 - 5-2 loss to San Jose*
2/24 - 2-1 win over Ottawa
2/27 - 2-1 win over Jersey

* both goaltenders played in game

It seems that when the Flames don't give run support to a goaltender, Rittich has a much greater chance of winning a game than Smith.

I really see no argument how they keep playing Smith this late in the season. He is sub .900. Thats it. Thats not starting goaltender material. He plays in front of the 2nd best team in league. How is that stat possible for a STARTER? Play Rittich. He obviously is our best chance at winning every game. Im tired of seeing Smith try to "show off" his puck handling skills. Sorry bud you suck at it. If you watch closely his D men need to release Smiths passes extremely quickly. They dont even have the time to think ahead about a good play rather just move the puck up ice as quickly as possible.

Anyways I'm still hoping that's the last time we all have to suffer through a smith start in Calgary. That would just be so great.

The staggering stat is that Smiths save percentage is not just bottom 5 of all starters. He is BOTTOM 5 of ALL goaltenders. Yet he keeps starting?

This is such a hoarse crap response. He said he felt rage towards Smith's performance in that game. And hes allowed to feel that way, I'm sure a lot of us do. He didn't say anything about where the Flames are in the standings or their overall record or anything else. It was a special night and a lot of us were emotional and excited and Smith just f'ed it all up in typical Smith fashion.

Your response is like telling someone who just lost their job that they should be happy that they live in a great country.

Smith played like a third string rookie IMO and I can't wait for him to be off of this team.

80% save percentage last night, free goal at a crucial time in a big night, another stinker to seal the game away shortly afterward. 6th lowest save percentage of all goalies who have played more than 20 games, 3rd last of those who've played more than 30. 6th last in goals saved above average. On a second place team. 12 of Calgary's 17 total regulation losses in half the starts.

I'll post again the Minnesota broadcast's response to Smith:
https://twitter.com/cjzero/status/1102077729283944453

Donato on his goal: "I think that was a little bit of a lucky shot, maybe a little bit of a tough goal. I was lucky that one went in."

Boudreau: "One part of our gameplan was to go right at Smith if he had the puck. He’s usually really good or really bad, and we got a break for that."

The entire hockey world knows this guy is done. Enough, ffs. But I fully expect Rittich to lose the net at the first sign of any struggle and Smith to be the playoff starter

Not sure if you can afford to play this guy in the playoffs when he has a penchant for gaffes that result in free goals for the opposition and even after that close call in the 1st period he does it again and isn't lucky the 2nd time. It seems the bonehead risky plays are something he simply can't shake.

I think it's great that Smith has been looking better lately. I really do. But he's still not a very good goalie.

I mean, "Smith has been very well lately" means "below .900 five times in last ten".

While "Rittich hasn't been at his best" means "below .900 four times in last ten".

Or to to put it another way: Rittich playing badly is about equal to Smith playing well. That's why Rittich has way better stats over the season.

I feel like the team have been acting like fans, overreacting to individual games, hot streaks and cold streaks, instead of keeping their eye on the big picture.

I really hope I'm wrong about this, but to me it seems like the team is still under the delusion that Smith might be our starter in the playoffs. I don't get it.

We've been through this enough times. Smith isn't bouncing back, and wasn't anything special to begin with.

We should be getting Rittich accustomed to being the starter right now.

Yeah, Mike Smith should've been pulled after allowing the empty net goal while being caught behind his net.

This is what, 8-10 points lost now this year, which is solely attributed to Mike Smith being lousy this season.

The Flames should/could have had at least another 6 points minimum or more this season had we had some other option in net. (as we probably wouldn't have won every single game Smith sucked in)

Smith with the back-breakers tonight.

It was a tight game and the team battled but that 3rd goal to make them fight against the Wild and the clock was brutal and the 4th goal that went through him like a hot knife through butter was the killer.

He was directly in front of him, no screen, no traffic, took an eon to wind up and all Smith had to do was let it hit him and somehow it went right through.

Brutal stuff.

The take that he had no where to go when he was behind the net infuriates me. Sure, AFTER he had more than enough time to get the hell out of there, and decided instead to try and be a roadblock back there, then he was stuck.

Play it and get back into the net. If you try and play it and there is a mishap, get back into the net. Don’t stand around like a buffoon.
