If they brought in ROR, once they extend Chucky we'd have 6 key forwards locked up long term to continually build around year after year, and 4 of them would be able to play top 6 center (Monahan, ROR, Lindholm, Backlund).
Also, I disagree that this team can't be a contender, especially after an off season where they hypothetically bring in Lindholm and ROR up front.

One thing that needs to be kept in mind in trading away prospects and picks for current players is being able to have a roster that can survive an expansion draft in a couple of years. Having some prospects or the ability to obtain them who are otherwise exempt will be important.

rather than RoR (who I have always believed was destined to be a Flame since the Feaster thing) and his hefty cost of acquisition AND super hefty cap hit which I have doubts we could manage since we have Hanifin, Lindholm and Tkachuk and Janko and bennett and and and to deal with in two years, take a shot at landing tyler johnson.
More manageable cap hit and term, plays the kind of no quit game we all love to watch and is another C/RW RHS we can add to the top six mix with Lindholm.

Once we sign Ryan for depth I would rather we stand pat with what we have rather than throw big money at someone.

I love the Tyler Johnson idea, I wonder if a Brodie package would appeal to yzerman

I disagree. I think we go for broke and sign James “FDRs New Deal” Neal.

Brodie is probably the lowest he has ever been in trade value, though I think he can have a solid bounce back season with Giordano.
Trading Brodie will really weaken our defense. I don't think Hanifin has yet reached the level to cement or hold a pairing. I also think Andersson needs a season of sheltered defensive minutes (3rd pairing).

O’Rielly would give us top 5 center depth instantly and depending on the cost I’m definitely interested.

I'd argue 59 points isn't worth a top prospect and a 1st, but that's just me. I personally would explore cheaper options which would involve giving up the prospect rather than the prospect and 1st combo.

GM's give those kind of returns for players like that pretty much every year on deadline day. As rentals.
In this case you'd be getting a 27 year old player of that calibre who is signed for the rest of his prime (5 more years).

That is putting a ton of pressure on Lindholm and Bennett to break out. I dont think the team has improved on paper so I hope they add another top 6 forward. May have to go the trade route

Take it with a huge grain of salt.
The source is the same guy who was pushing the E. Kane to Calgary rumors.

Here’s a more credible source saying same thing about ROR. Works for WGR radio in Buffalo

During the game one of my little birdies told me the ROR trade has already been verbally agreed to. We’re all just waiting. Not sure what the wait is for.
No, not my Sabres twitter secret deep throat guy. Another one... connected though.

That is exactly what Bennett needs though is a guy to go to him and say hey, we believe in you and think you can be an important part of our offence.

Isn't the wait because of the July 1 bonus he's due?

That’s the speculation
Montreal interested and don’t care about bonus. Other cost conscious teams willing to wait.

Flames talking to Ryan Reaves and Derek Ryan...seems like Ryan O'Reilly makes sense.
If not, maybe Bobby Ryan?
