We are with Fido and it seems like they have the same sort of thing. Unfortunately, it's only part of their new plans and we have an old grandfathered plan from many years ago. Guess I'll just have to review our data usage from the past few weeks and try to figure out how much we'll likely use and just buy their short term roaming plans.
EDIT: Never really thought about the wifi options - agreed it'd be annoying, but the short term data options seem pretty expensive ($8 / 50 MB)
Is any phone unlocked? Any old phone unlocked to serve wifi?
Can buy short term american data plans, and create wifi hotspot to connect your own other phones to.

Total noob question here (in "tech talk" no less), but unlocked means I didn't buy the phone one a term contract, right? If so, I don't think I have an unlocked phone, but do have old iphones that we don't use anymore. I know how to make the hotspot, but unsure how to do that with an old phone if I don't have a SIM in there anymore.
Thanks in advance for your help.
EDIT: Okay, read that website a bit more and I think I understand. I buy one of their simcards, put it in an old phone and use that as a personal hotspot. Only issue is if the phone will allow a simcard from another company? Is that correct?

sooo ... they are seriously banning everybody with a rooted Android version now with the newest update. What the hell.
Meanwhile, my test bot account is happily rolling along, easily nabbing a Kangaskhan today near the Opera House in Sydney Australia, a day after bagging a couple Mr. Mime's at the Parthenon in Athens Greece.

That's correct. If the phone was locked to a carrier (all contracts are), it will not work unless it has been unlocked. FYI - carriers may unlock your outdated phone (that finished its contract with them) for free. Bell did this for me with an old Samsung S3 that I wanted to use for the same sort of purpose. Just call customer service and ask. Took a couple minutes over the phone.
Good luck, alround!
