Perhaps you could go back to adding hehe to the end of every post as it may make you seem slightly less unhinged.

If you're not worried about it that is fine. And Royle may very well be correct that we are going down the rebuilding path. But I don't think you should get upset at people who have legitimate concerns based on the message being sent out in the media.
The Flames aren't planning a 5 year rebuild, they also aren't trying to win at all costs. They have lost ZERO significant UFAs and have been way below the cap and the 6th youngest team in the NHL and will almost certainly be younger by years end. Like what is the concern exactly?

This is an outrage! You have to follow the media!

A large portion of the fan base wants a 5 year rebuild. And they are going to voice their displeasure if we are not rebuilding.

It is as simple as that, people have very different view points.

5 year rebuild is only needed if you suck at your job...plus no franchise plans to suck for 5 years anyway

“...We expect to be a playoff team. That's how we have to enter in our minds, every season… We want a team people will want to watch and be proud of… this identity we established (last year) as a hard out, a hard-working team, that’s who we are...”

I appreciate that this is cliche speak and every team in the league will tell you that they want to be hard-working and such. But it's pretty frustrating to hear when you're sitting last place, soon to be 4 years out of the playoffs and selling fans on being "a hard out". It should be easy for management to put together a hard-working team, hard-working should be the bear minimum expectation in the NHL regardless of whether there are teams that don't work hard. The real challenge for management is acquiring and developing talent.

Would have been very nice to hear the VP of Hockey Operations go 10 toes down and say that they don't have enough talent and need to address that deficit rather than simply selling fans on being plucky.

I think they are already in year two or three of a rebuild and have at least another three to go…

Honestly, it doesn't really matter where you stand on what the Flames should do (fight for playoffs or trade everyone)... that was not an interview that inspired confidence either way.
They didn't send him out. He's on the road trip so he was asked to do an intermission interview.

This wasn't Hitler speaking from high up in his castle, it was a 3 minute interview with someone who was available.

I agree that it inspired no confidence - I think everyone agrees with that - but the weight that some people are putting on it is just bizarre.

Speaking of media, why is Conroy being patient? He should be making moves right NOW! Why does cost even matter? Conroy needs to start doing his job better by selling all the veterans today, serious offers be damned! I fell to the ground and started pounding the floor screaming "nooo" when I read that.

Barnburner was going on about trading players for anything yesterday...like THAT is how you #### this up. Being patitent is how you get the Brock Nelson and Carlo returns.

all the biggest "OMG they got that much!" trades are at or near the deadline

I agree with your last point but I actually speculate they did "send him out" and it wasn't some impromptu request.

Lindholm was traded a month before the deadline. With the Olympics this year, maybe there is a potential for bigger deals before the break.

There really aren't that many teams at this point that are in buyer mode. Most teams like to wait until the TDL to see if it's worth it, not mid-November when everything is still up in the air for most teams. Statements being made now are meaningless since real offers likely aren't coming in to entice a trade.

So ownership flew him to Buffalo to get on an intermission and speak platitudes for 3 minutes?

You have to really want to take a certain position in this to believe that. If they wanted to present a narrative, then prepare something and present it, with enough time to make your points, and enough clarity to make your points obvious.

That seems oddly specific.

Why not "a large portion of the fan base wants a successful rebuild"

100%

They don't have Francis on the road trip, they've been using Mikkelson every intermission and wanted to mix it up.

He was there.
