It does look very good, however I will hold off pant shatting until the whole thing is revealed.

The previous sketches of it show a glass type railing, which presumably will be installed after they roll it across the river.

That bridge looks like something out of a sci-fi world like Halo.

It has kind-of-a circa-1975 retro-futuristic Space 1999 vibe to it... in a good way.

There is a wire with orange flags right now, but that means that people can ignore it and jump off.

I'm close enough to this project that I have to keep most of what I know to myself, but one thing I learned during the construction which I did not know before was that a pedestrian bridge actually has to be able to hold a greater load per square meter than a bridge designed for vehicles.
I toured this structure in mid-May, and from then on I knew once it was pulled across the river many people would change their mind about it. It is the kind of infrastructure a world class city should have.
I think the biggest issue is its specific location, and how Bronconnier and his buddy chose that location. That's a whole different debate.

I was down there today and took a quick look. Looks nice, and I agree, once it's out there, think a lot of people will change their mind about the project. It's going to be pretty eye catching.

This is what I understand, and it was surprising to me, but it makes sense. When you deal with vehicles, they only occupy their lane, and they're spaced out and have load points on each wheel. When you deal with people, they can congregate, even pack together in small spaces like cars can not, and they load where they stand. So while you think a car weighs more, as an engineer you have to account for how many people could be on the bridge and compare that to how many vehicles there could be. If you're planning for the maximum load, potential people per square meter weigh more than potential cars per square meter.
I should add I don't "know" this to be absolutely true but it is one thing I heard, but it was a rather casual comment. An engineer would be more equipped to comment on this.

I thought that part of the reason for the load requirements for the bridge was because the city wanted to be able to have emergency access across it or something? I have no idea how that would work or anything like that, and that could be totally wrong.

According to OpenFile Calgary we'll get a look at the whole bridge by the second week of November:
