I thought season 1 was very close to perfect - tight storyline, riviting from beginning to end. Season 6 was certainly not my favourite, but it remains at a very high standard as with all seasons.

After reading through this I am going to need to watch the other seasons. This last year was the first time I had the channel that I could watch this show on. I love the show but reading through this I must be missing alot because I haven't seen the previous seasons.

While I thought that the ending to the finale was exciting, and obviously set the stage for next season, there were a few things about it that bothered me.

The first one, obviously, that Dexter didn't lock or block off the door to the church. That just seems stupid.

The second one, that when Deb entered the church, she heard yelling, and obviously could tell there was something going down, and yet she just walked towards it like a moron. She's a friggin' police officer, shouldn't she have at least drawn her gun? She was going to what was a crime scene that had yet to be cleared... it just seemed really ridiculous to me that when she first heard yelling between Dexter and Travis that she didn't actually act like a "police officer".

I think the final scene could have been much more powerful and intense if Deb had stumbled upon Dexter killing Travis with her gun drawn, and the final scene showing her pointing it at Dexter, unsure what to do.

All that said though, this wasn't my favourite season by any stretch, but the ending was exciting and I am really looking forward to the next one!

so is it confirmed that there are 2 more seasons to go? that would put Dexter at 8 which is a pretty long time for any show to run. 7 seasons seems like the magic number for a lot of popular shows

if it is confirmed, then it takes a lot of the suspense out of that final scene. obviously Deb isn't going to turn Dexter in since that would end the show right there. so you're left with her knowing and allowing him to continue his work. that's the one big problem i had with Dexter this season, it was so predictable. as soon as Deb and Laguerta had their chat on the roof top, i knew Deb was going to the church and would see Dexter kill. Travis having an imaginary friend was also spelled out very early in the season, as was him kidnapping Dexter's kid (really Dexter, the guy left you for dead and took your wallet and keys. but somehow leaving your kid at home didn't trigger any alarms)

i'd rate this as the 2nd worst season just above 3 (Jimmy Smits, #### you). i can't imagine the last 2 being any better since they'll really have to drag things out to make use of the time

Just finished the finale, I really didn't mind this season although I have to admit I didn't see the now obvious Gellar twist coming. I liked this season better than season 5, and far better than season 3.

I'll admit the plot holes are getting bad. Why didn't the homicide team hear dex hammering the wall upstairs? How did he just happen to find a boat, and not only that, a boat where he got to kill someone on? The deb dex love storyline is uncomfortable to watch too.

I'm glad deb finally saw, it can give this series a mix for next September.

Invested a lot of time into it, gotta see it thru.

But I don't think the show is terrible, but I wasn't a big fan of this mess that was Season 6. I'm still definitely gonna watch S7 and 8.

Because I've invested too long to quit now. I hated this season, but I watch suh little tv that one hour a week isn't a big deal. I used to love this show, but I found this season to be atrocious.

I thought this season was repetitive and didnt really add to Dexters charactor. The whole can God save dexter was interesting but they killed brother Sam to early and the other side plots werent that interesting to me.

I really thought that this season should have began with deb finding out about dexter and it be the last season. I am definately looking forward to next season and how they deal with deb finding out.

In terms of ranking the seasons it goes

4,1,2,5,6,3

With Lithgows season being by far the best and this last one and 3 being a step behind

I this that Season 6 blew Season 3 and 5 out of the water. My rating system would go like this:

4/1, 2, 6, 3, 5

Even though this season wasn't AMAZING, it sets the foundation for some great stuff. With the whole Louis deal, Deb finding out, the ITK arm still being in Dexter's house, I think there is potential for Season 7.

It's a damn shame we have to wait 9 freakin' months for it though

Is there anything Deb doesn't know about Harry/Dex/Brian?

She knows they are brothers right? And that they are both sons of Laura Mosier.

I'm just thinking if the hand in Dex's appartment could open a new can of worms for him and Deb, on top of the minor "he's a serial killer" part.

Deb is adopted too right? I don't suppose she's actually Dex's real sister after all?

Dexter is adopted. Harry is at least Deb's biological father.

This season didn't feel like it had a real payoff, the last 10 seconds of the last episode notwithstanding. The Gellar swerve was obvious miles away, the angle with the new detective didn't amount to much, Quinn and Batista were this weird sideshow when they weren't irrelevant, the intern/video game guy was not really explained or explored.

This wasn't a bad show or a bad season. Just not as good as some of the past ones IMO. Eagerly awaiting new episodes, as always.

Yeah. I felt S6 had a lot of potential that just wasn't realised.

The 'killing in the name of god' and tableaus were a neat idea, but the psychopath payoff isn't as good as having real religious nutjobs. They put too much energy into the 'Gellar's not Real' reveal, and not enough into the rest of the story.
Brother Sam was a really interesting character, and his death was a good moment, but it did nothing for Dexter's character.
Dexter takes a swerve to Nebraska, and nothing happens.
Quinn is a douchbag, and nothing becomes of it. I thought he might reinvestigate the Kyle Butler story, but nah.
Nothing was made of the nerd intern this season.

I like that some of you explained your perception of the show and this season, makes more sense to me now.

While this finale was not as gripping as the finale in the Lithgow season it certainly makes S7 much more intriguing.

What's the consensus on how Deb reacts? Does she realize she had a hunch all along and goes along with it? Or does she go the other way, totally distance herself from Dexter and struggle with what she should do about it.

Either way, it's gonna be a gooder!

Potential spoilers! (well not really, but I was so good at predicting pretty much everything from this past season I thought I'd give you guys a heads up.)

I think it makes the most sense if Deb distances herself from Dexter, meanwhile Dex feels closer to her than ever. Pretty much a reversal of season 6. Dex now feels he has someone he can be himself around but she is repulsed by it.

Finally, she comes around about 2/3 or 3/4 through the season when a baddie they can't arrest (on some technicality) is brought to justice by Dexter.

Once she sees his use we see that in season 8 she is actively stalling investigations that Dex wants to handle himself. This leads to Deb being fired or getting in serious trouble for obstructing justice, but no one knows why except her and Dex.

Series ends when he kills someone to get her off the hook (Laguerta?). She then is ok with it and travels around with Dex wiping out bad guys across the US.

Dexter should just kill Debra, the character is just so damned annoying.

British shows dont have the writing staff to sustain long seasons plus in NA you want to get to about 100 episodes to be considered for syndication. That's where the real money is.

I still find it baffling that you guys are able to remember all of the seasons enough to rank them.

I understand the reasons, but shows like Dexter will never do well in syndication, as you need to run them in series for the story to make sense.

What you get in the UK is a story divided into the season at most 12 episodes. Granted you also tend to get some of the best charactor actors on the face of the earth to draw from as well, that doesn't hurt.
