That can’t be correct or there are errors on the card? Carlo was 28 when he was traded to the Leafs not 27. He didn’t have 3 years left on his deal he had 1.5 left.

We just traded away Andersson for draft picks we will not see until 2027 and 2028 and those players not see the Calgary roster until probably 2032 or later, if they make it at all. Vegas is playing with and gaining benefit from our future, and we received no benefit from allowing them to do so. Trade for immediate picks. Period. Sports is a game about immediate results. This trying to play 4D chess stuff is stupid. If a team doesn't have the picks you want (next draft), move the hell on to a team that does. I mean, Conroy got played so badly on Hanifin that the pick they should have received was used in a later deal to grab Hertl, which made the pick we received less valuable. Just brutal management and vision.
IMO this probably just speaks to how bad the other offers were. I believe Conroy would have happily accepted a mid first round pick in this year's draft over the Vegas package but that likely wasn't on the table.

Dallas might have been offering a first rounder next year and maybe that's about it.

Still reading through the thread but has anyone talked about what flipping Whitecloud at the Trade Deadline might net us?

Over 600 voters in the poll now and over 70% of them believe it was break even or better.

Appears that once again the whiny vocal minority makes it seem worse than it really is.

Dont believe its going to happen, but you could likely get at the very least a 2nd +
Maybe a 1st if a team is desperate enough, he's a defensive guy who can kill PK's and is quite physical.

If Calgary was contending, id be super happy with the player being here for the push.

I believe it's age at the start of the season for the JFresh cards, and Carlo has one more year left after this year.

So it was 2.5 years left on his deal.

Regarding the alleged Boston deal - could Conroy have signed Ras to 9.5x8, then retained 2M to make it work? Would those wanting the Boston deal have been ok with a move like that?

Break Even / Expected doesn’t mean someone is happy with the return

I didn’t expect a lot because I thought we handcuffed ourselves and the return matched by expectation .

I am not happy with the process and the return however .

75% thought the trade was break even or worse . Anyone can “play” with stats and make it look better for their opinion

I think the trade is fine but I do share a sense of unease like others. Mine stems from the thought that management does not seem to be as connected as they should be to the situation(s). And it’s happened a few times with Gaudreau changing his mind and then Hanifin and Ras not changing their minds. Ras has been very underpaid for many years so of course going to FA lets him mitigate the discount for his services the Flames enjoyed over the term of his last contract. Him not wanting a contract yet was predictable but perhaps that was the negotiating strategy to see if he just might change his mind. Really only matters if there was a better deal to be had at a different juncture in the past year. Only management knows that and I sincerely hope there wasn’t a mistake made in that regard as we need every advantage we can get.

Thanks I thought Carlo was a pending free agent this year and don’t realize he was signed for next year.

I’m tired of the Conroy bashing on here. I think he’s doing a great job cleaning up after the mess Treliving left. Anyway that’s my rant. Probably time to stick to watching for posts from Sureloss. This place is getting crazy

Sure, but over 70% also think its break even or worse. Kinda cherry picking the numbers there, no?

Conroy didn't get a massive return, but other than the Canucks he makes an early move. Canucks are pretty bad since the Hughes trade and all but locked up a top 3 pick in the draft.

Flames are next to make a big move, need to secure a top 4 pick.

Ras out now vs teams like St Louis still having their full roster is great for the Flames. 2nd in 28 or a 1st in 28 is so overblown vs getting a guy like Stenberg or McKenna. Staying at the top of the draft is the real gain for this franchise.

Of course that’s obvious. But they could have also waited 13 more games to do it.

Andersson wants to go to free agency. It doesn't matter what Boston, Calgary or Vegas or whoever else want to do. He has the right to explore and maximize his last pro contract and not do the team or anyone a solid. It seemed pretty clear to me that he was extremely unlikely to extend from the beginning of this saga a year ago. You have to have the entire Flames franchise dialed into not letting this happen and moving guys that are unlikely to resign way ahead of time.

If Flames ownership would stop messing around and worrying about squeaking into the playoffs once every 3 years as the bar for success, Conroy might actually be able to make another hockey trade for someone with contractual value remaining again.

I'm not paying more than rental prices for guys like Andersson if they aren't under contract if I'm a GM of another team, so what is Conroy really supposed to do? He got a pretty good deadline return for a rental. Move on and hope the team slides the rest of the way to improve the lottery odds.
