I really didn't like the managerial decisions at the end of the game today. In the 8th you have a fast runner at 2nd with no outs, and they bunt twice. One pop up one moves him to third. Two outs for that 90 feet is a terrible trade. They only needed 1 base hit to score that insurance run, you have like a 60-65% chance of getting that straight up, plus it greatly improves your chances of getting more than 1 run (nobody bunting hits a HR).
And it shouldn't have been Hoffman in the 9th. You had Little available and 3 middle-of-the-order lefties in a row due up. Any other time in the ballgame you'd have given that to Little - it's stupid to put in Hoffman "because he's the closer". Do what gives you the best chance to win the game, don't follow some stupid tradition.
Then in extras Clase (with speed) absolutely should have stolen second. Him in scoring position dramatically improves his chances of winning the game (and he would have scored on the subsequent Kirk single from second). If he gets thrown out you're worse off, but you dont get any credit for stranding one runner instead of two - the point is to win the game and a steal attempt there by a very faster runner has huge positive expected value.
They won anyway but it took them 2 extra innings and some breaks going there way.
