He got a taste of what he can get away with and now shamelessly indulges because no one in stripes is going to bother to keep him in check.
If the league cracked down on embellishment by handing out regular penalties when it was that obvious we probably wouldn't get to this point.

Former Calgary Flame, Dennis Wideman, calls 97 out for the gutless way he plays hockey.

Reenact the Kesselring play on him tomorrow. It's only worth 2 minutes.

Wideman makes an excellent point here, and I think it goes for both McDavid and Draisaitl.
The entire hockey world got angry at Tkachuk and Kassian was proclaimed a hero for horse-collaring Tkachuk and doing what he did, and demanding that Tkachuk answer the bell.
If McDavid is skating around sticking guys, why does he get a pass? If Draisaitl can go around slew-footing players and cup-checking them, why doesn't he ever have to answer the bell?
Well, this is what you get when you have a superstar on your team. The world loves their stars, and what's fair and what's right doesn't always matter any longer. Wideman is 100% right here, and it is something I have been noticing for a long time now, especially with Draisaitl.

Edmontonians are hypocrites, news at 11..
It is rather funny that they heralded Kassian's "heroics" but now are living the other side of it with McDavid baiting without answering the proverbial bell they recently cherished up there.
And yeah, any guy that spears nuts (Leon) is no good.

The reason it's allowed, is because most fans, league members and media people want that allowance in life for themselves. They don't want to be held accountable. They want to run around being low character individuals sticking anyone that gets in their path in the groin.
We see that kind of behaviour regularly on this board even, when someone gets checked for their poor acts they throw a fit.

I hope that Gourde issues an apology, and it reads like: "I am sorry for my actions, they were wrong. I allowed McDavid to infuriate me, and that anger made me reckless to the point that I hurt Elkholm." That's undoubtedly the truth anyway. Calling him out without calling him out.

Superstition is obviously completely stupid. There's no way this thread title has anything to do with the oilers record since we ended the last thread...
That said...
Maybe this version of E=NG should get an early retirement and we try something different?

Not sure if anyone was watching any of that game last night but McDavid drew another one of those penalties where he grabs the opponents stick. When are teams going to start sending film of this stuff to the NHL? It's garbage. He purposely reaches back with his hand when on the rush to grab the checking player's stick making it look like he's being interfered with. Last night the Kraken player even let go of his stick once McDavid grabbed it so show what was going on and he still got the only penalty.

Hope there's a competent Calgary reporter in the bunch that works around this team that will challenge him in front of the cameras on those plays.
Lord knows you'll only get passive bystanders in the swamp up the highway, even though they have eyeballs and can see it clear as day.

Just watched the video. What a pansy McBaby is. I see him behind one of the refs during the scrum. Wee tiny Gourde scared the big guy.
And I have seen way worse charging not even called. I imagine protection of the sissy boy is paramount. No respect from me. Unbelievable.

It's funny to me that the DOPS needs to protect Edmonton's precious 6'2"+ players from a 5'9" guy.
That phone call should more likely be with #97's residence telling him to 'answer the bell'.

I vote for an early retirement of a thread that was no good from the start with the title chosen.
Cover all our bases for tomorrow including Jobu's domain by putting one of the good handful of titles in place of this one.
