Nadal's hitting some crazy shots though. Or just being Rafa.
This set alone has been 75 minutes. I think the first set was 20.

At least Rafa was able to continue his win streak today

Time for the Flames to start a new streak on Saturday. Rafa vs. Meddy should be good on Friday.

I feel bad for the Russian tennis players right now. The 3 top men (Medvedev, Rublev and Khachanov) have all expressed desire for peace. Rublev last week won a doubles title with a Ukranian, and he said he was recently getting hate online. Also poor Elina Monfils who is from the Ukraine.

Vasek with another good week on the challenger tour...He's rebuilding his ranking once again as he took a big hit recently.

It was a roller-coaster for Denis in the opening set, but he prevails 9-7 in the tie-break.

Happy 28th birthday to Genie Bouchard. Her career certainly didn't go as I thought but for about 2 years she was really good and almost won a Grand Slam.

Vasek may get 37 year old Gilles Simon in the semis. Simon is on court right now and if you're watching, he's winning matches hitting the ball about 2 miles an hour.

The crazy thing is Shapo played better in set 2, but Vesely's level was incredible and he takes set 2 in a tie-break (7-2 was the tie-break score).

Man, what a hold from Denis down love-40 and rips off five straight points. 4-4 in set 3.

Edit: And then breaks to serve for the match at 5-4.

Edit 2: Vesely breaks right back. Shapo missed a sitter at the net that would have given him a match point.

Third set tie-break for the whole ball of wax.

Edit: Vesely wins the 3rd set tie-break 7-3. Amazing it was that close with Shapo coughing up 14 double faults.

the worst of Shapo managed to overcome the best of Shapo. I hope Corsi didn't watch that one, it was ripping chunks of hair out annoying.

Still only 22 years old. Hopefully as he matures he can become mentally stronger as he's got the tools to win a grand slam and it's up to him if he fulfils his potential or becomes an underachiever like Monfils.

borrowing again from Matt Willis, this is his Shapo rating web:

https://theracquet.substack.com/p/th...utm_source=url

the shot tolerance metric is what hurts him the most and is why he's so damn streaky. I don't think you can ask an aggressive 1HBH player to grind the way Felix could, but this is why currently there's no plan B if the groundstroke winners and 1st serve aren't flowing. I don't know if the solution is more spin, or borrow Uncle Toni for a couple months.

He should talk to Them or Wawrinka they both were able to win Grand Slams with agressive one handed backhands.

Shapvalov is turning into Gasquet. That's not a bad thing but not a good thing either. Wildly inconsistant.
