He's played center in his career. He's got good size and skill.
I think he has a higher ceiling than Sillinger.

Who would/should say no in this trade:

To Utah:
Andersson
Posposil
Honzek

To Calgary:
Iginla
2025 1st round pick (currently 15th overall)

All magic beans for Calgary but they are getting a prospect they really coveted in last year’s draft. The flames fans would be excited to have another Iginla on the team. After Iginla’s injury and lost year of development, his value might be a little diminished compared to 8 months ago. It’s likely his development will now take longer. The flames are giving up a good prospect in Honzek who is likely further along in his development and could potentially be as good or better than Tij Iginla when both are in their prime. It would probably have to happen at the draft and the player available at 15th overall would have to be a center that the flames really like and has high potential upside.

It’s a risky trade for both sides. Flames are getting players likely 2-3 years at least away from being impact players in the NHL - if they reach their potential - but they could end up being the best players in the trade by then. Utah is getting 2 guys that could already be considered NHL impact players (Andersson + Posposil) and a recent first round prospect that could be NHL ready as early as next season.

I imagine Utah has very little interest in trading the first prospect they ever picked but, after seeing a prospect like Ritchie traded for a 33 year old rental player, I’m hoping the market is a little more open to acquire high grade prospects for NHL vets.

Utah laughs at Conroy and asks him not to call back

Yeah, no way Utah makes that trade. Honzek has yet to put together an injury free year, his development is likely on par with Iginla at this point.

Pospisil is no way an impact NHL player. He has 4 goals. He tops out as a 3rd liner.

That would be robbery by the Flames. We don't even need impact players today anyways so we would be fine with the 1st and a developing Iggy Jr.

Utah laughs loudly and hangs up.

Honzek has low value after being a bit of a reach and then putting up two consecutive low production seasons. We have to hope he's going to succeed here, as we won't get value for him elsewhere.

Pospisil shows such tantalizing flashes, but we popped the cork on his potential this year and it turned out the bubbles werent there. We gave him (are giving him) extended top 6 chances with few results that are showing up. His value is also low.

Andersson's value has declined since the beginning of the season. Pretty abysmal counting stats since the new year and also just looks like garbage on the ice. The retained contract option has less value for a single season than it would have for 1.5 + playoffs.

IMO Andersson and Pospisil together could have got a major return early this season. But as time ticked on and they played on our roster, the question marks dropped away and revealed little upside.

The combined value of all three players might not even be a 1st at this point. Maybe a late 1st. I don't think a top 15 pick and a former top 10 pick are even close.

I think you are vastly overrating Honzek or underrating Iginla here.

D+1 Honzek, injured in WHL: 33 games, 10 goals 31 points.

D+1 Iginla, injured in WHL: 21 games, 14 goals, 32 points.

Less games and more points for Iginla. Also, Honzek's seems like it could be a recurring or nagging thing.

I still have hope for Honzek, looked great at camp this year. But there's no one giving us anything of value for this player today.

This is interesting. They have:
Fantilli (untouchable)
Johnson (who is playing on the wing)
Sillinger (who is playing on the wing)
Lindstrom (prospect)
2025 pick (likely to be a top C)

If we could pry Johnson out of there it would be great.

Anderson is close with Monahan and with Meredith Gaudreau, he may be open to sign there.

Anderson + prospect (Honzek, Stromgren, Basha, etc) for Johnson??

Utah could be interesting, though. I personally doubt they trade Iginla no matter what, because of the "1st draft pick" and the name value. But, they are pretty stacked on the wing already (keller, Shultz, Crouse and Kerfoot on the left), with other decent prospects in there (But, Moroz, Sokolov). All they really have for prospect D is Simashev (and Kipkie i guess, he's having a good W season).

Perhaps Mews or Bzru (obviously ++) could be of interest.

You should look up Johnson's stats this season. No chance they trade him. He and Fantili (and Marchenko) are the future there.

Andersson will not be a successful piece to try to acquire a ppg <25 player.

I can't see Utah being interested in a prospect swap. If they trade Iggy it would be for an impact now player of which we don't have. Unless they view players like a Coleman or Andersson as missing pieces, but trading a prospect like that with picks for those guys would be highway robbery.

Stranger things have happened, but Armstrong is a strong GM.

Colubus will be picking 13th right now And have lots of young forward depth, would easily see them going with a D this draft.

Why bother blowing assets on a winger even if it is Iginla

The Flames are seriously deficient in top end skill. I hope they take a run at Marner as UFA.

27 yrs old would be 34/35 at the end of the contract.

would have a #1 C locked in for key years.

Marner
Kadri
Frost

Decent Centre depth for the next 3-4 years while we draft and build our Centre prospects.

Marner is a RW who has never played center.

Tbf he was never going to get a chance at Centre with the Leafs. I've often thought Marner has all the tools to be effective up the middle, and he did play C in junior iirc

Why would he get a chance at C with the Leafs. He was a winger throughout junior with a very brief trial at center. He was drafted as a winger. It’s been talked about earlier in this thread.

I can promptly tell you Utah is not trading Iggy JR.
He’s going to be their franchise jersey seller.

I would like CBJ as trading partners, they have a lot of good young talent on the team, and some nice looking prospects. How about that Luca Del Bel Belluz? Young C/W and a real beauty.

This makes perfect sense. They drafted him for a reason.

Face of the franchise.
