Retain 50% on Marky and get a decent return. I love the idea of a Vladar and Wolf tandem leading things going forward.

Believe multiple teams have expressed interested in Lindholm as a rental. However the players camp and flames would prefer an extension in place to increase the return for the flames.
Florida Panthers continue to be in on the circle for Noah. It’s believe they would make a strong push to sign him if he gets to UFA. Arizona is still the most engaged however based off other info isn’t interested in signing an extension AZ at this point but plenty of runway here.
Blake Coleman is getting a lot of interest. Teams are interested but so far want a discount… Flames aren’t willing to let him go. He’s been a great leader and role model for the young guys on this roster. Blake’s camp is very happy here.
Andrew Mangiapane maybe looking for a change of address. He’s frustrated that he’s been moved from Backlund and Coleman. ** this hasn’t been confirmed through other sources.
As we inch closer to a return for Jakob Pelletier return (Jan/Feb) I herd Ruzicka will be the odd man out and maybe apart of a deal involving the pending UFAs.
I have received some intel on Oliver Kylington, I won’t comment on the circumstances around his LTIR but there is a significant increase in chance we may get to see him put the flaming C on his chest again…. 2024?
More to come….

He doesn't have to go there if he doesn't want to.
I'd also tend to avoid retaining salary on multi-year deals.

I just took a look at Moneypuck's numbers for GSAx/60. They rate Vladar 75th out of 79 goalies. But you know who is 77th? Dustin Wolf.
Would you trade Wolf away for a 3rd-round pick?

GSAx is not a great stat
It has been discussed in other threads

I was skeptical about ever seeing Kylington in a flames jersey again. But I have to say, I am exited about the idea of him being part of the reboot.

No they shouldn't. You need veteran leadership. If you eviscerate the team then who is going to help out the rookies? Do you think there wouldn't be any negative effects for the rookies playing on (what a lot of "Team Tank" wants) what would essentially be an AHL team?
As a young player, I would want veterans, decent veterans, around to learn from. I wouldn't want to step on the ice each night knowing there's a high likelihood of being embarassed.

If Coleman likes it here like it seems he does keep him. His give a s### meter seems to rub off on the team and the younger players need that. He seems like a good ambassador for the city.

Of course he doesn’t, but with Lindy undoubtedly leaving and the Flames not being a competitive team…why does he want to stay? Guy wants to win.
On the cap - It’s two seasons. You think salary cap is going to be a problem over the next two seasons?
Only way it would be is if the Flames spend like drunken morons in free agency

Coleman reminds me a bit of Matt Stajan’s role in the locker room. Good guy to have around for the transition.

No idea; I don't know him. Maybe he doesn't want to move more than he wants to win.
If you retain and the acquiring team does a buyout you're left sitting there helplessly crying for four years. I'd rather trade him straight up for future considerations if both the Devils and Markstrom are interested.

I would not avoid 2 years of salary retention at all if it got us a much better return. We may not be wanting to full rebuild but even in a retool you do that every day of the week if it nets a better pick. $3mil retained for two years when we have no business contending? Hell yeah, you do that every time.

I like Coleman. For an American who built a house in Texas, he has really embraced being a Calgary Flame.
He has been exactly as advertised when we signed him. A really good pro.

Agree with this, 100%. You need to balance "sell anything not tied down" with "rebuilding teams need a foundation of hard working, veteran culture". Especially when said veteran is allegedly attracting discount offers from other teams.

$6 million of dead money is easily a 1st round pick. Ask Montreal who actually got one year of Sean Monahan for that. If that's what they're offering, I'd do it too.
Anything less, I'd rather use the retention slots on the pending UFAs.

I would move Coleman without hesitation if a team offered a first-round pick. Otherwise, I'd keep him.

I think that isn't a reasonable worry with a team getting Markstrom for two years. There's zero chance they buy him out heading into next season, so the only worry is a last season buy out.
More cap savy posters could suggest what the Flames would be left with but I can't imagine the combination of the chance of it actually happening and the actual one year buy out would leave the Flames "hopelessly crying".

Think about it carefully. Would you take a 3rd round pick from New Jersey to retain, or would you offer him straight up for nothing and weaponize the $6M cap space? Teams are going to be trying to dump contracts to go after people like Draisaitl.
