Seems like we're not going to make any moves before the game tonight.

Hronek and McCabe are 2 D with term that moved for strong packages.

Is it so hard to imagine the team might be able to capitalize on this market with a player like Hanifin or Zadorov?

Calgary still needs to build a fifth forward line of old slow fighters, and a geriatric fourth pairing. I expect a busy day of general confusion.

If the Flames acquire Edmundson, the organization is dead to me.

I'm guessing the Flames will send Pelletier and Duehr temporarily, at least, so they'd be eligible for the AHL playoffs, right?

It seems like maybe Sutter’s take over hockey operations? Not formally. But it seems like maybe he’s got more influence over what happens than anyone in hockey operations given no one in hockey operations has a contract?

Duehr and Pelletier have injected so much youthful enthusiasm and pace into the lineup.

McCabe came with a much smaller salary and max retention. And that package was not that great IMO. Hronek is just a weird trade but he will be a pending RFA, not UFA. And doesn’t have an MNTC like Hanifin.

But name me the team that will pay and can afford those guys. And what the package does in Calgary’s present team cycle.

EDIT: and ther Hronek team was to Vancouver. Same trade is available in June.

Spitballing but off the top of my head another trade with Florida could work. They could use a top 4 left D and the Flames could use some speed to their forward groups. Flames would have to retain on a Dulcair swap, Bennett's hit is a lot closer.

Talk now could lead to something in the offseason as well.

Listen, all I've said is that the Flames, if the opportunity presented itself, would do well to find a way to use this clear window of increased GM activity to mix up their roster cause this roster just isn't clicking.

If they did nothing because nothing presented itself, that's fine.

What I don't want to see is them moving picks and prospects for older vets.

I'd be really cautious with Duclair. It's not an insignificant injury he is coming off of, especially for a guy with injuries in the past. He has been inconsistent from season to season, likely due to injuries, but it is still something you need to be mindful of if you're trading for him.

I'd do a 3rd rounder for him with performance considerations that can move it up to a 2nd if he meets certain benchmarks.

Think you're correct. I really think Treliving is a smart guy, good GM, but he is still an employee and therefore bound to follow the company mandate. There seems to be an assumption that the team has not offered to re-up Treliving, but it just may be that an offer has been made and he's not willing to sign on if the team remains committed to short term thinking.

Either way as a fan I would assume the Flames continue the attempt to assemble a Frankensquad, and we as fans will be forced to watch a slow progression from mediocrity to irrelevance. Only when fans grow tired of watching the slide will ownership decide to change course.
