I've noticed he isn't the fastest guy out there, but I don't think he's costing us games in CF.

The frustrating thing is that he is fast.

I always find it funny how these clubs are so unwilling to trade prospects. I mean come on, you're not going to trade for ROY HALLADAY because one of the pieces MIGHT be a star in the league?
ugh.
Also, no Buchholz please.

Rumor out there is Lee is going to be traded to the Philly's. That will take a team off the list as a potential trader for Doc.
What a mess, I bet the Jays are not going to be able to make the trade....

UZR - some kind of mathematically based defensive range indicator - has Wells at -22, in the same territory as Adam Dunn, the next group of lousy CFs are around -8.
Plus Wells doesn't have much of an arm.
He is, partly because of the importance of the CF position, the worst fielder in baseball.

I think Doc ends up in Boston. I think the Phillies are going to regret not making a move for Doc.

I was thinking about this a game or two ago, matching player's running patterns after wild animals.
Rios has the nickname gazelle (blissfully oblivious gazelle, to be specific) and runs like one - first strides are powerful and he gets to top speed quickly. Very useful in baseball.
Wells runs more like a bull, small choppy steps that take longer to get to full speed - terrific for long straight distances, not so useful in baseball.
Wells is faster, but Rios is more effective.

So whats the rumour on the latest package from the Red Sox, Buchholz, and than either Masterson, or some AA first baseman named Lars Andersson, or Michael Bowden, and than fringe prospects to round it out. At least with that one you get two decent pitching prospects and all of them have at least have pitched in the Majors, and if you could work in a good hitter, maybe it's not bad. The Jays seem to be okay for left handed pitching so a power right hander might be a better piece to mix in with what they have than a guy like Haap.

Jays need to get Lowrie and/or Bard from the Sox to make the deal IMO.

anyone but Boston or the Yankees. I couldn't stand facing Doc in those uniforms multiple times a year.

Why not?
I don't begrudge those teams, I wish Rogers would spend enough money to get a league-best team and the fans would support it accordingly.
I hate that taxpayers built them a stadium, and MLB playoff rules virtually forbid most teams from making the playoffs, but I would cheer for Doc in a Red Sox jersey - especially after seeing how well they treated Big Papi at the start of the season.

Yep and I would like to see Doc get a chance to win it all. Why not. Jays and most of the other teams are likely never winning it anytime soon. Plus the best package is the best package. Take it whoever offers it.

Sounds like Cliff Lee to Phillies is almost official. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/200...ils_lee_offer/
So is Boston the new front-runner for Roy?

Rance Muliniks (sp?) is stupid. "I think if you decide to rebuild you do it around Roy Halladay"
Well Rance, lets think about that.
Assuming you decide to rebuild:
1) Do you do it quickly enough that you are contenders 14 months from now?
No (but if you can pull that off, Rance, please take JPs job NOW)
2) Does rebuilding begin by bringing in young players and prospects who your organization will grow into valuable players.
Yes
3) Do you get some of these young players by trading away older players who other teams see value in? And if a player is deemed more valuable to other teams, will you get better and/or more prospects to rebuild with?
Yes and Yes
4) Is there any chance Roy wants to stick around and resign if he is going to be the piece they are rebuilding their team around again?
Hell No.
In summary:
Rance, you suck and that was a stupid comment. But, at least you're better than Eckersley was.

Pathetic....getting no-hit through 6 innings by some no-name.
And once again Halladay gets no run support.
Edit: Jays follow with a hit and a HR. LOL.

UZR (Ultimate Zone Rating) actually factors arm into the equation as well.
It combines runs saved/lost due to range, arm, and errors. Range has the greatest effect on UZR - it's calculated by splitting the field into 70-80 zones and determining range based on which zones the players make plays in.

With the Phillies deal I think you can see why some teams are unwilling to deal prospects.
They were able to get a guy that will likely help them win as many games in the regular season as Halliday and isn't that big of a drop off come play-off time without giving up a any of their top prospects. The Jays wanted 3 of their top guys.
Halliday would have been a great addition but if the option is Lee + keeping Happ, Drabek and their top hitter versus Halliday and losing those guys I think the Lee deal is the smart one to make.

How can you not love this guy? His comments ring heart-felt, despite the loss:
Quote:
So that's the end of the trade saga?
"For me it is," Halladay said, smiling. "It's important for me to realize that my best chance is going to be (staying) here. ... It's somewhere I like, so that's pretty easy for me."
.....
"For me, (Philadelphia) was never an option. I was going in planning on being a Blue Jay," he said. "And that's how I handled it."
