Not Chapman... too much money for too long a term. Yes he plays really good D but his bat doesn't profile for a corner like it should... I could be talked into Bellinger thou.

Bellinger to me would be the better add mostly because it feels like Toronto has lacked a reliable LH power hitter since Carlos Delgado. Plus he can play Center or Left plus occasional 1B, and defend well at any of those.
Chapman, only if his market never materializes and the term is 3 or fewer years.

Don’t buy into the Bellinger rumours. Boras is using the tools at his disposal, likely going to use his lackey Heyman to spread some Jays gossip too. Never again will I believe any of these rumours.

Until Jeff Passan reports it, it's not real.

Don't mind the City Connect ones in general, some duds but some nice logo designs, uni colors and color combos have come out of it.
Hopefully not a regurgitating of the "The Six" theme that Drake and Toronto itself seems to try and push as they have with Raptors, as some faux hard edged town with 6 municipalities. A Canada theme would be appropriate maybe considering the fan base coverage is greater than a city, but likely not to happen...and that also has the dangers of going far too maple syrup cringey, plus they have the Canada Day reds anyways.
Nor a retro return to the Tony Bautista era Jays, or the silver and slate of the Halladay days, either.
Hopefully Rogers comes up with something good. Back to the drawing board after they created an Ohtani-centric City Connect jersey as part of the final contract push.

I don't think any of the City Connect jerseys are retros. Frankly I hate all retro jerseys. It's lazy marketing. There should be a move to the future without having too many ties to the past and these jerseys are the best in pro sports by a wide margin to move into the next century. The 80's was terrible for colours and jerseys for mostly all teams, and yet for some odd reason teams go back to those cheesy colour schemes. I wanna see the future, and this presents the best chance at it. Blue will likely be part of it but I'm going to go on a limb and say blue and silver will be part of the scheme. Just a guess.

Ugh...such a mistake.
Still, brought me back to this nice moment on opening day:

Love that flashback to the 2000 season. The year Delgado was robbed of the MVP in peak steroid era.
The Jays hit a ton of bombs that year and almost had a full lineup of players with double digit homeruns. Including 4 above 30. Any semblance of a rotation, and not in the heart of the Yankees buying championships, and the Jays could've done some real damage.

Yeah and that's a perfectly reasonable stance.
It's funny though, because the Jays really don't have anyone in the system that is close to taking 3B and running with it, while they have a handful of guys that look like they might take a corner OF spot in the next season or two and actually be decent there.
So while what you say is true, the Jays need a long term option for 3B much more than a long term option in LF.

Completely agree. Problem is that I don't see Chapman as a long term option (not a good one at any rate). 3B options in Free Agency are really really really weak in this class so I'd rather address 3B either internally or via trade then see the team overcommit in Free Agency on Chapman.

Yeah, it'd be sweet if they could trade for a decent 3B with control.
They should never commit to anyone who they can't trust, over a long term contract. Especially anyone in this free agent class. For Bellinger wanting 8 years at over $200M? Get out of here. Certainly some sucker may budget but teams since covid know they can't make those deals unless you've shown consistency. He simply won't get it. I'd much Atkins field a mediocre team than get themselves into terrible contract situations forcing them into years of mediocrity.
Manoah's going to be a real uphill battle. Injury, conditioning, and mechanical adjustment don't just change over the course of a few months. I personally see this as an 8 month adjustment where he'll need to eat right, exercise, and work with the pitching staff very closely to adjust to what they need, without mentally battling them. If I were to guess he'll fall flat on his face to start the season, and as he lets go of his ego you'll probably see some benefit as he starts to put his trust in the coaches. There's a lot to adjust to in a short period of time though. He still looks large.

Please tell Toronto to throw Manoah again. I'll never get tired of seeing that smug face tagged in the playoffs. By us of all teams.
Originally I thought Votto for that last bench spot would be good, but his numbers really took a bad dive for a couple seasons now. Add in his age and I really think there’s no upside, as smart as he is. Coach, sure but bench spot, I’m not so sure anymore considering there may be guys who can play who are younger. Even Tellez has shown a decent upside.
