Sure, a lot to take from this for 2026, in theory.

But, I think there is a good chance that the leader and glue that has given this team the attitude/mentality/desire/us against everyone, in Herdman, won't be there. That will be a massive loss to shape the next 4 years and subsequent World Cups for development in the country.

There's no qualifying pressure, so it's up to friendlies to get experience.

So, there's a big responsibility of the CSA to get things right and that's been well documented how dysfunctional that organization has been for decades.

For this team, let's get a result on Thursday. They deserved better on Wed which is tough one and would've had them still in it after today, keep the heads high and finish positive. Morocco still has things to play for too.

The two man midfield was a mistake. One of those midfielders being 39 was an absolute disaster.

The goal was super exciting though, I will remember that moment for a long time.

It was still not a great idea, and while Croatia is a small nation they punch way, way above their weight class.

In reality, they are who we should be emulating and aspiring to be like.

I don’t mind what he said, you just need to live with the consequences. That’s part of sports so IMO you don’t get bent out of shape when they bring it up.

Meh, an emotional Herdman who likely had just given that same internal speech to his team.

Yeah, you just have to take the consequences, the thing is you dont need to say that publicly. Focus on your team and your game, not your opponents.

And after the Costa Rica result Germany's chances just got a lot better.

My sister is in Essaouria right now and they are going nuts.

I mean Croatia is a poor country with fewer citizens than Montreal. Wouldn’t exactly call em a world power by any stretch.

Canada is a G7 nation that invests in sports and a population exactly 10 times the size.

Croatia knows they're not in the clear yet, right? Don't throw stones in glass houses.

Germany always seems like a what could have been won the 14 cup and just kind of did nothing on the world stage

My feelings about the CSA and how awful they are make it hard for me to cheer on the Canadian national team, but it's hard not to love seeing a player like Davies score a beautiful header like that.

I try and spin it to my own ends.

Its an 'Us against the World' mentality and that includes their own association.

I mean, it's one thing to say something like that in a huddle to try to fire your team up and have it go out in the media. Probably not a very smart thing to do from Herdman, but it's understandable that you have to get your team in that mindset.

It's entirely another thing to go running to find a reporter to gloat to after you win a game you were supposed to win. That's... kind of pathetic.

1000%. Herdman or the players will never say it, but they've made the WC despite the CSA, not becuase of it, and channeling that player (and coach) frustration is brilliance from Herdman and a big source of motivation in qualifying. I am sure he used it, again accuratly, for the Women as well. He wasn't first choice coach for the CSA for the Women or the Men, and still doesn't have the resources or support most national coaches would from their governing body (who now gets an allowance from a private group).

And, thus, as I said if he goes, this team will take a huge step back, mentally at least, with the CSA back at the controls.
