#Flames already youthful. Will be getting younger soon.. Gulutzan has worked extensively with young players .

I hope it's the opposite. I care more about the plan and vision he has for the team rather than his one other stint since who knows what else came into play with that team.
Going off of track records get you Bob Hartleys and Brent Sutters.

I'll admit from everything I have read, I too was hoping Rierden was the guy. However I have also come to trust BT. I have faith that he did his due diligence and then some to reach his conclusion. If it is in fact Gulutzan then I will welcome this decision with open arms.

For those wondering about the vacant associate job:

Darren Haynes @DarrenWHaynes
Treliving said when we spoke Monday the associate coach job (formerly Jacques Cloutier) is also his hire but new head coach will have input.

Then hopefully they nab Green from Utica out from under the Nucks org.

He's excellent with the younger guys.

Just curious to see why Brad thinks he's "the" guy.

Canucks have looked like a dumpster fire under his, Torts and Desjardins watch. Not exactly blown out of the water by the prospect of takings on someone coming from a group producing all that mediocre hockey. Then again they haven't had much to work with there. The track record prior to that isn't great. But really, what do we know about coaching in the end...

Can't be worse than the Ducks' decision.

I too was hoping for Reirden based on just what I have read during the past few weeks. However I have a lot of trust in BT and his judgment.

Does anyone have a rundown on Gulutzan to win me over?

Not to derail the thread, but firing Bill Belichick, however justified, is about the most Cleveland thing I've ever heard of.

Second only to the fictional Browns of Draft Day picking a middle linebacker first overall and a running back at 7, getting a punt returner as a bonus and calling it a win when the best QB in the draft goes at 6 and they're left with Tom Welling . Sure it is, Cleveland. Sure it is.

Agreed. More specifically, they were thoroughly out coached by Hartley in the playoffs the year after they allowed Hartley's starting lineup to lead to a full on meltdown of their season. Not that I think Gulutzen had much if anything to do with either of those things, but it doesn't inspire confidence that he learned much in Vancouver to improve after his disappointing stint in Dallas. I'll do my best to keep an open mind if he's the guy, but I'm still holding out hope for Reirden.

Kind.of.underwhelmed by Glen.

Really want to see Todd Reirdon here.

Also just want the coaching carosel to end.

Treliving is more nervous about the importance of this pivotal hire than any of us are, so I'm confident that he'll have made the best decision possible. If Gulutzan satisfies Treliving's scrutinizing eye, then he certainly satisfies mine until I determine otherwise.

I trust Treliving more than any GM we've ever had. He must think our players will respond best to Gulutzan and that his strategies will work well for our skillset. If he can come up with more than one zone exit I'll be happy.

Having lived in Canucks land for too long, I've become familiar with how media and fans have spoken of Gulutzan. It's been nothing but praise, and trust me, Canucks media and fans are quick to throw their coaches under the bus before their players.

By all accounts, Gulutzan isn't one of these glorified "motivators," but rather a personable X's and O's-type of coach. If there's any time to finally get a technically sound and strategic 'General' behind the bench, it's now. We have so much raw talent on the Flames right now, but we need a better battle plan than stretch passes. Gulutzan was the Canucks' PK specialist (maybe all special teams, I'm not sure). He knows his stuff. He's held in high regard and I think he's ready for a head coaching gig.

I'm fully on board with this hire if this is where Treliving goes with it. We can do ALOT worse than Gulutzan.

I would be more concerned if those Dallas teams were very good. They improved a great deal in the following two seasons after Gluten's dismissal, but then again he never had a top line centre like Sequin, or a second line option like Spezza, or a rookie phenom like Nichushkin (he scored at nearly a 0.5 pts/game pace in 2014). His second season was lockout shortened, and I think these things make it more difficult to gauge the quality of his performance from 2011–13.

Gulutzan's been around the Flames a bit in the past too. When he coached/managed their old affiliate (Vegas?), he speaks of being at Flames training camps and whatnot.

the Haynes hint that Treliving will be making the "associate coach" call with input from the head coach has me thinking Reirden is coming too.

Hoping anyway.

At very least the associate label from Treliving is a good sign of a bolstered bench with lots of grey matter.
