What's the probability that Hartley is coach by the time Janko is in the NHL? Very slim me thinks

Some people have loose definitions of "tear it up"

I don't really think that's a fair assessment. Johnny is a great back-checker. Sneaky stripping the puck from players backsides, and he plays (up until York switched up the top PP) mostly 5v5, which requires defensive responsibility.
They don't shelter Johnny, quite the opposite. They play him against tough lines, start him in the defensive end and let him move the puck north, and he hasn't had nearly as much powerplay time as his points total would suggest.
IMHO, he is the best player in college hockey, and he doesn't need to spend a second in the AHL.
He could, perhaps to get used to the thicker schedule, as we are finding out right now that guys like Hanowski and Jooris and Knight have slowed right now after the half way mark. College players just aren't used to playing 80 games+ a year.
That being said, Johnny is what you'd call 'exceptional'. Whatever the rule/guideline might be for moving players from colleges to the NHL, Johnny is likely an exception to that rule.

Gaudreau outshining Janko not only in College Hockey, but also in Janko's own CP thread too.
Johnny is a monster.

So I have resigned myself to believing he is a year away from being in the NHL.

Kid ain't no LeBlanc, Knight, or Kreider.
Kreider couldn't even break a PPG until his 3rd year of college. And even he's looking like a great NHL player now.

Well considering the odds of him even being an NHL player at any point are very slim I'd say that's a fair assumption. Kid could have 2 years in the ahl before he's even ready to make that move and that's post college.

I think the odds of being an NHLer is much much better than "very slim"
He might be a long term project but the odds of him being an NHLer at this point in time aren't any worse than 50/50

Talked to two NHL types this am. Both say they are very impressed with Mark Jankowski this season. Much improved defensively. #Flames
Roger Millions @RogMillions
Both believe he will be an NHL player. Jankowski's offense may be off a bit, but they say he is a greatly improved player. #Flames

I think Jankowski is going to be at least a defensive forward at the pro level.
He just skates too well and has the size to be a complete bust. Whether an offensive game will translate is another question.

I'm hoping Wheeler is a good comparable for development curve. Drafted in '04 and played his next year in the USHL. Then played 3 years NCAA posting these numbers:
2005-2006 University Of Minnesota-WCHA 39 9 14 23 41
2006-2007 University Of Minnesota-WCHA 44 18 20 38 42
2007-2008 University Of Minnesota-WCHA 44 15 20 35 72
Jankowski's Stats:
2012-13 Providence College H-East 34 7 11 18 10
2013-14 Providence College H-East 27 9 8 17 8
He's got 12 games to get six points to match Wheeler's pace, on a far less offensively talented team. PC has 85 GF in 27 games (3.14 GF/G), whereas Wheeler's gophers had 169 GF in 41 games (4.12 GF/G).
Wheeler put up a 20 goal, 40 point season in the NHL after leaving college. I think we'd all be thrilled if Janko ever did that in the NHL. But those worried about his stats maybe shouldn't be.

Love hearing stuff like this.
I'd honestly be more concerned if he had the numbers but lacked the approval of pro scouts.

What are you basing your assessment of 50/50 on? Considering that the amount of late first round draft picks that eventually become NHL players is less then that to begin with, I don't get where you're coming from. A player like Jankowski that's a massive project to begin with is in no way even close to comparing with the average late first rounder. So again, I'd stand by my comments of a slim chance when considering nothing but draft position and current path of progression. Button is even on the record pretty much saying he has a very long way to go at this point.
It was a miss to take this kid imo even if he does eventually crack the NHL. Kids like Ceci/Maatta are already proving to be highly capable players in a position of need and Feaster/Weisbrod passed them up. I have no doubt this is a huge contributing factor into Burke punting them both.

It does not matter what other prospects in his draft class are doing today, unless they are dominating or fully reached their potential.
We need this kid to be a force in 3-4 years.

This.
The fact that he is 6'4" and skates well - not to mention soft hands -means that he will be given the development time and the opportunities to continue to develop (much like Colborne).
He simply has too many tools to be a total bust. The only question is: how far can he take his development?
