I needed one more depth defenseman as I was lacking in that department in case poop happens.
This deal still leaves me with about 250,000 in cap space, a spare forward on the farm a spare defenseman and a spare goalie on the far, if needed
Pateryn is on an expiring contract, and he is more likely to be seen sweeping the hallways and scrubbing the floors, he does have a 78 df rating and a 65 first pass rating and a 64 overall rating.
I should be ok, with my roster sizes once my RFA's slide off of my AHL team.
I do have some decent prospects when I checked through them last night with some on the rise. Overall I'm pretty happy and set in terms of rosters, though I am concerned about only having a 4th round pick in next years draft.
But if this experiment falls apart, I have lots of really good roster assets that can be moved to rebuild.

I want to thank everyone who was in on the Hertl trade talks. It was fun and a welcome distraction over the last day or so. I was almost at a flip a coin stage over two proposals, and an 11th hour option arrived in the form of a player that I coveted, and a couple of decent prospects.
I plan to trade at a rate of about one player for every ten that Scorp trades, so there will be opportunities to revisit potential trades down the line.
To Minnesota
Tomas Hertl
3.1M for 2021
To Los Angeles
Luke Kunin
Dominik Bokk
Cale Addison
My reasoning for taking this trade was where the players involved are in their respective careers. Kunin (70OVR) is set to be a fixture in Minnesota's top 9 for a goodly long time. He's an 'all around' good player, with decent stats across the board. At 22 years old, he has a bright future.
Dom Bokk is a pure goalscorer, but there's nothing wrong with that. He fits into the style of play in Carolina like a glove.
Cale Addison is an offensive defenseman, and has been a PP QB at every level. He was a point per game player as a defensman in junior, but is slightly undersized at 5'10. Like Kunin, he is part of the Minnesota rebuild.
So, by moving Hertl, I move potential for my team from success this year to greater success in next season, which has been my strategy from the beginning. I have also maintained a concentration on DEF rating for this season, and we will see what the SIM does with that.
I agreed to move the cash this year, as it matches what I will have to pay next year for Kunin's RFA tag. That still fits within the parametres of my strategy, so it didn't hurt me to do it.

Deal came together quick. I wanted to upgrade my top 6 which this does. I like all the players I gave up but I knew there was a potential bidding war so I paid up to land him

Charlie Coyle, his cap diff, and a 2021 3rd (Ott)
I like Virtanen and secretly wish he were an NHL Flame but I don't love SIM Virtanen. Age and cost control were tough to give up but Coyle's ratings were a little higher and we're hoping he will be a better fit on the 3rd line with Duchene and Kapanen.
This was a pretty quick and easy deal. Thanks Hanni!

Two CPHL Islanders were just traded for each other!
In the NHL, that is.

St Louis trades prospect goalie Igor "The lab assistant" Shesterkin to the Calgary Flames for prospects Caron Focht (C) and defensive prospect Dylan Coghlan and $750,000 in cap space for next season.

Don't you need to have two roster spots open for Virtanen?

Remember when I almost traded Boeser for a Shesterkin level goalie prospect? Pepperage Farm remembers.

What?
Am I missing something here - is this a trade of the guy who could be the Rangers #1 goalie as soon as next year for two very marginal prospects and a bit of cap?

Uncle Chester

To Detroit
Vlad Namestnikov
To Buffalo
Ryan Getzlaf
I like Namestnikov but he was expendable. I needed a physical center and Getzlaf fit the bill.
