But that isn't happening because they have a win-now roster that committed to this team. So give them one more chance

Waiting burns this team. Pick a direction and go. I'm not saying trade it all, go scorched earth, but if you wait maybe next years deadline is soft. Maybe they get cammalleri'd. Maybe they play just good enough to believe maybe they have a shot and try and keep everyone for a push. They've got 6 guys to make decisions on, moving 1 or 2 now doesn't "disarm" them.
They have to take advantage of the market. If there's a deal here that helps them mix it up and get a jump on next year then they have to take it. This is a good team and a good offseason can help solve a lot of things.

Trelivings MO has been make trades in the summer though. I don’t think he is on team sell either. He’s probably retool

Insider trading:
Edmundson may not get traded
Some teams are worried about his extra year with his injury
Others are not so worried because they don't want to spend on a rental.
One team told LeBrun they need to see Edmundson play tonight
LeBrun thinks the game against the Leafs tonight is huge for the Flames in determining if they want to add
Flames interested in Edmundson because he is not a rental.
Flames not in a position to spend big on a short term solution
Sens may still be looking to add
Looking for another center and told his players he is going to try and help them
Jets would like to add a scoring forward
Have not been playing well lately so some debate if they should add more
Jets don't have a lot of picks, so don't want to spend any more picks but do have cap space
Canes don't have anything close
Canes were all in on Meier
No appetite from ownership down to spend 1st round pick on rental
Possible they might try to add a cheap forward at last moment
Vegas has $3 million in cap space and if they find a broker or retention they could still add a big player.
JVR at 50% retained is at $3.5 million - intel to connect him to the Jets as well
|
If that's the case I hope the boys #### the bed this evening

If tre was the one driving the buying he would have bought at the all-star game imo.

I'm glad they are standing pat. Show me a team that would be doing ok with this putrid goaltending? Don't tear it down until you know what they can do with goaltending.

Then they should extend the GM and indicate that though it hasn’t gone to plan year 1 , but this is the plan.
I have thought about the sutter hire not ultimately being a treliving call, and that perhaps the flames have offers on the table but treliving isn’t so sure at this point.

What market is there for players who are more than a rental but without significant term?
I foresee an off season where, say, NJ, Toronto, Vegas, NYR, Carolina, or Minnie, come really close but fail to go more than a couple rounds and figure they are one piece away. Like a 2C, or a scoring two-way winger, or a defensive Dman, or a puck mover. A whole lot of teams would pay pretty well for a full year of those guys, and they’d also be looking at their (pretty late) draft picks and thinking those kids are outsides of their present window.

I am not really buying that the Flames are waiting for tonight's game to reassess their situation.
They lost to Boston even though they dominated that game. So what? Boston was on the 2nd half of a back-to-back, and I believe 4 in 6 nights. Can anyone say that the Flames were unlucky to win, when factoring in the luck of the schedule for that game?
What will a win against Toronto show? They are also coming in on the 2nd half of the back-to-back. Is a win going to convince anyone in any direction? Will a loss?
Management has over 2/3rds of a season to have assessed where they are. Tonight's game - win or lose - will not change anyone's mind, just as the Boston game didn't. I just don't put any value on any insiders stating otherwise.
Either they are working out a big trade, or they are just planning on running this back next season. That's my working theory at the moment.

Are the Flames really gonna force me to cheer for the Leafs? I don’t think I can physically do it.

This is the most active deadline in a while. GMs are clearly talking and finding ways to make things happen.
The offseason will present its own opportunities but theres got to be an opportunity here to help the team now and in the future.

Yep.
I'm yet again anti-Win this evening. Only been that way a few times as a fan - the game against the Bruins the other night, and tonight. These games are meaningless, and should be viewed as such.
The time for make or break was a few weeks ago.
Just lose, and start turning the page tomorrow. Let's get better for the longterm.

That’d be something. I can’t imagine it’ll be too crazy. Even in my desire to see the Flames change course I’m hoping for like…two trades, max.
The Western Conference should have a relatively busy day though, as outside of stinksville, no one has really done anything.

It's the same thing every year. Big names pop and drop before D-day. Everyone panics because nothing will happen. Bang 25-40 trades at the bell.
I think the average d day trade numbers have been in the mid 30s. So yeah 35 trades to.orrow.

The only reason I see Calgary trading for Edmunson would be because they're moving a dman before hand.
