Actually, that's 100% false, I just wanted to get a conversation about actual hockey players going...
I heard that rumor too, also said he didn't want to be too close to the US border or too far away either, so sounds like he wants to play in the city 2nd farthest from the USA border.....

I hate Sharks fans right now. They really seem to think they have a good shot at Tavares.

I'm going to lose my #### if that happens. I'm starting to hate that team as much as the other two California teams.

They do have a good shot if they let Thornton go

I bet San Jose is a popular destination - it's got California weather, not as tourist crazy as LA/Anaheim, a smaller city, so more under the radar, a good GM, pretty good historical track record. And a generous facial hair policy.

Heard not long ago from a Sharks insider on the radio that Thorton wants to stay, to the point of signing later in the offseason on a reduced salary that fits in with however their cap space ends up. Guy LOVES playing for the Sharks.

San Jose is in a mega market (bay area) which is very tourist crazy

Seeing guys like Thonrton, Burns, Kane speak about being themselves etc does seem to make it a desirable location

Yeah, but San Jose itself is not the tourist hub. That's San Fran/Napa, farther to the north. San Jose is more Silicon Valley based, way at the south end of the Bay, and is really affluent. There's really not much tourism there.

Yeah he isn’t going anywhere. The only reason he made $8mil this year is because they could afford it and it was basically a thank you for your service and a future consideration bonus.

I don’t think this really means anything. Are you saying teams should do away with Dmen altogether? Obviously not, but in your scenario I’d also pull the goalie... should we not invest in goaltending? What if the scenario is that we’re tied... you’d likely want Dmen like Gio out there who are equally adept at scoring as they are preventing goals.

It’s really all about the most effective allocation of money. Ideally you balance your spending out across the roster, you probably don’t want to invest to heavily in one area to risk creating holes in others.

From what I've read, the Stars want him back and he wants to go back to them as well.

IIRC Nichushkin butted heads with Lindy Ruff. Ruff is long gone now.

That and he had no business playing top 6 NHL minutes. Wasn’t as advertised. Maybe he’s improved.

Thats definitely correct. Its also a hell of a lot more expensive here in the SF Bay Area and super crowded. I wanted to tweet a message to Tavares saying something to the effect that his money will go a lot further elsewhere; Calgary for example.

It's a nice thought, but when someone is making $10 m a year, how much does he care about differences in costs of living? He is so far beyond worrying about "affordability" that I can't imagine he would be bothered.

Doesn't California have higher state taxes than what's typical in the US?

If he wants his money to go further...he'll go play in Florida or Tampa Bay, or Dallas. Tampa would be tight to fit him in...but it's not like they couldn't make some moves to make the money available if they can get him at a discount.

I had identified San Jose as a place where Tavares could end up prior to signing Kane. It's been a solid stable franchise for a lot of years.

Five potential trade destinations for Penguins star Phil Kessel with Calgary being one of them. Not sure that I like the idea.I feel Pittsburgh prob got the best out of Kessel and his motivational level would be low moving forward.Skill is there though.
