I'd be wary of trading for Tarasenko. He's been injured or recovering for a long time now, not sure if he'll ever be back to what he was. 2 more years at 7.5M is a big gamble. Not to mention Tarasenko has a full NTC so a trade is highly unlikely anyway.

Yeah, seems like a terrible deal unless the acquisition cost is very low...certainly not the names being thrown around here

Not sure if we really need the Monahan <-> Thomas swap, Sutter seems to think highly of Monahan so unless his body is completely broken I think he can bounce back. I suppose from an asset perspective though trading in for the younger player is probably in Calgary's favour.
Woof. That would be instantly regrettable. 6 year difference between the two and hasn’t Tarasenko had shoulder issues? 3 surgeries on it so far. 34 games play d over the past 2 years. Hard pass.

If the Flames are going to trade Tkachuk, I’m reasonably sure they can get a much better offer than that. If you going to trade him to St. Louis you start with Thomas/Kyrou and start adding.

I wouldn't touch Tarasenko with a 10ft pole.

I am only taking on Tarasenko if we get Thomas back in return.

Monahan and Tkachuk for Thomas and Tarasenko (and maybe another plus by St. Louis) makes sense for both sides.

I'd take Thomas on the Flames just so his goal song can be Smooth by Santana

I'm not against trading Chucky, but f we're dealing him, it has to be for someone 25 or younger. Acquiring Tarasenko, who will be 30 next year, for Chucky, who is basically 6 years younger and who has already put up a better season than any season Tarasenko has had, seems insane to me.
We're not close to winning a cup, so why would we be trading good young players for vets?
Holy crap Tarasenko is 30 already…

Personally I think something like Backlund and Tkachuk for Thomas and Tarasenko is better. I also think St. Louis might be a team that wouldn’t be on Backlund’s no trade list.

Agreed. If Monahan bounces back, which I think is a legitimate scenario, Monahan-Tkachuk for Thomas-Tarasenko isn’t much better. I’m having a hard time understanding why the Flames would want to trade young players who are either entering their prime, or in it, for one who is on hole 17. Backlund on the other hand, maybe. But I still question that.

Also worth noting Tarasenko has a NTC. Seems likely to me Calgary would be on that list.

That's absolutely brutal for Calgary.

Tarasenko should hold no more value than Monahan. Tkachuk is on a completely other level than Thomas.

lol at people still thinking this is Tarasenko from 2016. He's nowhere near that anymore and carries a big cap hit.

I’m shocked and appalled at these trade suggestions.

Tkachuk and Monahan/Backlund for Tarasenko and Thomas?

Wtf are you guys smoking?

Tarasenko is 30 and injures his shoulder seemingly every year and Thomas is extremely unlikely to ever come close to what Tkachuk would offer in his worst season.

I must be missing something on Thomas. Don't see why he would be the centerpiece for a Tkachuk trade. Don't hate Backlund for Tarensenko though.

Let's trade our consistent young goal scorer with recent injuries issues for a less consistent older goal scorer with longer term injury issues!! /s

Critical undervaluing of Monahan continues.

I am guessing most people putting trade proposals for Thomas have seen him play for less then 3 games and have no idea is/how good his is!

This seems to be the way these things work - 1 Person throws out a new players name the Flames could acquire, and then 20 variations for the same player are proposed.

All of a sudden everyone is an expert on the player and for some reason he is exactly what the team needs!

If there's any piece I want from St. Louis, it's their 2023 1st round pick.

They're one of those teams that could just collapse at any time. Dallas, Nashville, even Pittsburgh and Boston are some others.

Is Thomas still living with the Tkachuk's in St. Louis? That would be fun.

A Seth Jones to Philly trade could make sense for both teams:

I will not pretend to be an expert, but live in St Louis and see as many Blues games as I do Flames games, which is pretty much all of them

The Blues once thought that Thomas has Mika Zibanejad upside, and he is only 21

Lots of talk locally from Blues media about whether they still think he can attain that.

I can see how it might seem random to throw in some Blues players into a Flames discussion, but was in part triggered in my thoughts by local hockey talk
