Their track record 15-17 is spot on, in my mind.
15- move picks for Hamilton and still mine Andersson, Kylington and Mangiapane
16- Tkachuk no brainer, but add Parsons, Dube, Fox and Phillips
17- Valimaki looking like a mover, and Ruzicka and Joly have had good seasons

But where is the high end forward skill in those late picks? Agree that they’ve done a decent job with identifying talent and we will see some of these players in Flames silks but we are so D heavy. Need a solid D but need F to put puck in net, not just check and be defensively responsible. Granted higher boom/bust potential with those type of players but draft is about adding skill to all areas, and if you don’t gamble on some high end skill you’re sure not to reap the reward.

I would say that Mangiapane, Phillips and Ruzicka all fulfill this criterion as gambles on “high end skill.”

Isn't that exactly what Phillips, Ruzicka and Joly are?
Taken in the 6th, 4th and 6th rounds respectively, and all are scoring forwards. What's nice is they all have seen massive jumps in production since being drafted which is a good sign. Obviously until we see it at the pro level it doesn't mean much, but at least they have taken steps in the right direction so far.
The good thing Ruzicka and Joly as well, is that they have size to go along with everything else, so that's one less thing that could hold them back.
EDIT: I also forgot Mangiapane, and I see Text brought him up. He's one that has continued his offensive growth into the pro ranks. Next step is hopefully the NHL.

Acquire Kessel. Sign Tavares and Neal.
Gaudreau (6.75) - Tavares (10.0) - Kessel (6.8)
Tkachuk (0.925) - Jankowski (1.05?) - Neal (6.75)
Bennett (1.95) - Backlund (5.35) - Ferland (1.75)
Hathaway (0.85?) - Shore (1.1?) - Dube (0.80)
Brodie, Monahan, Frolik (and picks/prospects) traded somewhere.

So basically just add the equivalent of an entire top line?

Acquiring Tavares while trading away Monahan only makes us marginally better IMO. Screw signing neal, keep Monahan in that scenario and we're a way better team.

IMO if you are lucky enough to land Tavares, you don't trade Monahan. You simply relish the fact that he's going to get a steady diet of weaker opposition than he usually faces when he puts up 30+ goals and 60+ points.
Hell, I even keep Monahan and Gaudreau together, and put Tkachuk with Tavares. Sit back and enjoy watching a Flames team with two legit #1 lines just because of those 4 players alone.

You don't acquire a centre just to trade your next best centre.

Does this Tavares to Calgary have any real legs? Or why is popping up all the time in these proposals.

1. Not really, no
2. This is a thread made for wild/dumb/sometimes reasonable speculation & proposals

I'd slap Bennett on Tavares' wing so damn fast.
Tavares makes everyone around him significantly better. If you can put Bennett there, and he gets elevated in the same way Bailey did in NYI...wow.
Gaudreau - Monahan - ?
? - Jankowski - Lazar
Bennett - Tavares - ?
Tkachuk - Backlund - ?
That's deadly depth. That's just 4 effective lines, and we can stop focusing on stupid dated conversations about the top line, 2nd line, top 6, bottom 6, and just roll 4 lines like other good teams do.

These hopes are borne purely of the fact that Tavares is still a pending UFA. Because he is still under contract with the Islanders they remain the only team that can currently speak with him. So, no—this doesn't have any legs because there is no gauge whatsoever as to what Tavares wants to do at this point. But the longer he remains unsigned, the more strongly numerous fans of several other teams will continue to imagine that he might be signed as a UFA after 1 July.

It's not very often an elite #1 center tests UFA in his prime, so naturally, pretty much every teams fans are speculating how their team would look with JT on it.
I've even seen Pittsburgh fans doing it, and they already have two of the best #1 centers in the league on their team.

Oh for sure, I was just wondering if there has been any legit rumors that would link him to Calgary.

Basically a dream scenario for the flames.
We need a real life legit rumor that's flames related really bad, its been a long off-season so far for us flames fans and the speculation seems to be getting crazier and crazier.
Draft is only about 22 days away so we should hopefully start to see some rumors with some substance to them soon enough, and maybe even some trades however I think we're still frozen until playoffs are over.

There are none. But by nature of the way the market is structured there are no rumours linking Tavares to any team except NYI, because they are the only team who can speak to him right now.

There is no trade freeze during the playoffs. In fact, there was a NHL trade completed less than three weeks ago.
