I wish I had a clear-cut answer! I'm not too sure, as much as things are playing out the same it's a very different world with the technology, global economy and nuclear power.
Most people would say buy gold but I don't know. The de-dollarization is in full swing world wide but everything is so linked it might not be as much of a hit as the previous world order changes. I mean the UK did better than the Dutch did so maybe the US will fare better as well.
I also only watched the video and haven't read the book so there's that.

These things have happened many times throughout history, it seems bad to us because it's the first time in our lifetimes.

The big difference now is that it's the entire world going through this cycle, not an individual nation or empire, and there's catastrophic damage being done to the planet that we've never seen before. When previous civilizations failed there was always someone else able to rise up and pick up the pieces, what happens when humanity as a whole all goes to #### at the same time?

Next step - mass extinction, we are the dinosaurs of this era. There will be survivors/seeds for the next iteration of civilization. Have a nice day.

Should there not be an asterisk next to middle class commoners?
I mean no offence but when you’re posting in the real estate thread about how you’re tempted to sell your home AND condo because comparable homes in your area are selling for over a million dollars it’s a bit disingenuous to portray yourself as someone who is struggling.
Don’t get me wrong you should be proud of how well you’ve done and continue trying to improve on that but try not to lose sight of the fact that the overwhelming majority of people are doing way worse than you are.

I think that’s highly debatable. Things are improving in some areas and regressing in many others.

So what metrics can you show where we see regression?

Well in Canada housing affordability, wealth inequality, and healthcare are significantly worse now than they were 10 years ago, with no signs of any improvement. Then in the US there's the loss of basic human rights, erosion of worker protections, rising hate crimes, and gun violence now being the leading cause of death for kids. And we haven't even touched on climate change yet and how utterly ####ed future generations are going to be, for now we just get to deal with a drastic increase in extreme weather events

The wealth gap will become greater and greater between the rich and everyone else, combined with the cost of living continually going up, and I forsee this coming to a head in the next 15-20 years.

Not to mention the rise of far-right extremism that we're witnessing in many western democracies, most notably our neighbours to the south and even right here in Canada with what's currently happening in Alberta.
The world is in a pretty f***ed up place these days. I still have a tiny shred of faith that humanity can eventually right the ship, but man, we've definitely got our work cut out for us.

I didn’t say for 95% of people in Canadas lives had gotten better . Guess what - Canada is 40million out of almost 8 billion !
Canada is a relatively spoiled country. Actually one of the most spoiled countries on the planet
For almost everyone else on the planet - women , minorities , and the third world the world is much better then anytime in history
The only people who it may be getting worse for (over the part 50-60 years) is the middle class white man in the developed world. And worst is relative speaking - life is still way way better for this class then anytime in history just not as advantages as the past
Income inequality ? Try not having food (starvation is at an all time low globally ) , health care ? Worldwide health infant mortality rates are at all time lows and life expectancy all time highs . Affordable housing ? There’s affordable housing available in tons of places. You just don’t want to live there , you want to live in high demand locations (globally speaking)
The world is not a pretty ####ed up place these days . Get off the internet or learn human history if you think this. You just have access to all the worlds “news” at your fingertips which are designed to create an audience !
Stop reading sensationalism social media headlines and instead read about how much things have actually gotten better worldwide for groups / people with actual problems.

The comment was 95% of people in the world rather than in Canada.
In Canada despite health care being “worse” life expectancy is still rising (data post Covid blip doesn’t seem available yet).
Climate change in of its self isn’t something that you can say is worse until the affects of climate change show up in things like access to clean water, life expectancy, poverty, food insecurity all things that are significantly better on the world wide scale than 10 years ago.
We have also prevented the worst outcomes of climate change. The worst outcomes like 6 degrees of warming appear of the table and back in the 90s they were possible. Solar power is following Moore’s law.
I think on metrics perhaps from precovid to now there were set backs

You're right. The woke left is not running the country, thankfully. That is a lie that is spread by the sleepy right. As usual, the country's being run by the center.

As it has always been, the country is being run by the oligarchs. It doesn't matter what hat the government is wearing. The rich donors are the ones actually running the show.
