Taking a while to get to 5000
|
1) Who is Jason Staal?
2) There are no other Staals on the Wild anyway
3) No

Now that it has been a few days after the deadline, I am pretty okay with having a first round pick this off-season and all of the prospects.
I still think the Flames can trade TJ Brodie for 1st Round+2nd Round picks. I hope the Flames then draft twice in the first round with the added pick. Then trade Frolik/Neal+2nd+Prospect for Zucker.
At that point, the Flames will have two new first round picks in the system and can easily pick up a star rental next season with the 2020 first round pick.

It was a straight hockey move. Player for player
I don't fully understand it but it does seem like they soured on Granlund. But if they had wanted to - they could have traded him and not worry about getting a roster player back.
|
Isn’t Fiala a former top 12 pick drafted by Fenton? Obviously they feel he has top two line upside still.
Granlund has skill but he also has average size and is fairly soft. I’m not sure I’d want to build around him as a core piece either.

Reminiscent of the Brad Stuart signing in Calgary situation.

A major complication in regards to any Zucker trade is Zucker's wife is from/lives in Minnesota and shares(I believe) joint custody of one child with someone from a previous relationship.
If Zucker is traded I don't think she could/would leave Minnesota on a permanent basis.
Its pro sports but Fenton would likely be damaging his reputation with future players if he did Zucker that dirty 1 year after signing him to an extension.

Apparently some TSN guys were saying the deal for Alexander Edler was something around Oliver Kylington.

If that’s true, I would sure hope Vancouver was adding-it would not look good on BT to get fleeced by Dim Jim.

No. Staal was never getting traded. He included all the top teams on his no trade list because he didn't want to move.

HNIC
Quinn Hughes expected to sign his ELC with Vancouver this week. Will burn his first year of his ELC.
If he plays 10 games then he will be eligible for the expansion draft but not believed the Canucks will let this happen.
If Princeton is eliminated tonight 3 college UFAs to watch for, Veronneau and Kuffner from Ottawa and Josh Teves from Calgary
lots of teams will be interested and lots of Canadian teams will be too including the three playing right now (Leafs, Oilers, and Sens)
Nicholson wants to take time with Oilers GM search
Despite rumors that Nicholson might move on to international hockey positions, Nicholson says he wants to stay with the Oilers and be part of the Solution.
Bfyuglien suffered a setback and returned back to Winnipeg
Neal skated yesterday for the first time since his injury but still expected to be out 10-14 days more
NHL and NHLPA continue to grind away at the escrow issue in meetings.
Really trying hard to solve the issue.
edit: of note Teves and Veronneau did attend Flames development camp in 2017.
However, being reported the Kings are the front runner for Veronneau.
Would love it if the Flames landed Teves though

Pulled the thoughts on both players from the 2017 camp thread:

Veronneau: has some promising qualities. He skates well even compared to some higher end prospects and has good puck skills. Made a great play during the PP segment where he walked out of the corner and found Kylington alone for a one-timer.

Max Verroneau - Verroneau caught my eye on more than a few shifts. He made a very nice pass on the Kylington goal, and I believe netted the empty netter. Good showing for the invite.

And Darren Haynes:

RW Max Veronneau - Another Ivy League kid, who just completed his second year at Princeton in which he doubled his point total to 35 points (11 goals, 24 assists) in 33 games. There were a lot of players on try-outs and it's a lot to digest but of those 16, the 21-year-old Veronneau was the guy most noticeable for me. Involved in the play, around the net, it was his nice cross-ice feed that set up Kylington's goal. Worth noting is that both Foo and Healey were at Flames development camp a year ago, only to sign this off-season. We'll put his name aside for later.

Speaking of guys coming out of junior I wouldn't mind us looking at http://battalionhockey.com/players/7183
Big kid who has put up big numbers on a crappy North Bay team. Seen him quite a bit this year and he has great hands and a good front of the net presence.
