If you're new to Canada, you don't have to worry about this since you're not going to be getting a mortgage to buy a new house anyway. I say this from first hand experience....the hoops you have to go through if you dont have local employment history is ridiculous right now.
Also, as someone who's family was new to Canada way back when, the last think we thought about was getting a brand spanking new house. We might've had less than most, but we barely had enough to cover food and the basics, never mind saddling ourselves in hundreds of thousands of a mortgage. Most people don't just buy a house out of the blue...they at least spend time in a city for a few months/years before making that kind of investment.

Sort of related: I noticed the other day that there is a pretty large, new subdivision just North of Country Hills Boulevard near the North end of the new runaway. I'm sure that there will be a number of noise complaints once they realize that they're living that close to it. But I don't have any sympathy - the airport has been there for years, and the new runway has been in the works since before those houses were built.
But back to the LRT. I don't have any sympathy for those that live there (the corridor was no secret and nobody forced them to buy there), but I do think that there will be a number of incidents on those tracks given the proximity to the houses, the at-grade crossings, etc. Although I believe that people are the only ones that can be responsible for themselves and their kids, I just have a funny feeling about it.

The design of the station has a great deal of foolproofing built-in against such situations. It is a dual staggered side-load station. Trains must come to a stop (to stop at either of the platforms) before crossing the road in either direction. A train won't ever be going more than 10-15 km/hr across that road, plus it will have come to a complete stop before that.

Hey Frinkprof, any word on when the city plans to start extending LRT platforms on the NE-line minus the new additional stations (which are already 4-car ready)? Or are they waiting until the South leg is done first?

Is there any reasoning why the NW line is one of the last to get get upgraded? If the SW/NW line is the busiest wouldnt it be upgraded first? I am sure there is a reason I just cant think of one.

do you mean the nw-s line? (the sw line isn't finished yet so wouldn't need upgrading, and won't be the busiest when done)
The NE line is the last to get upgraded, and it is currently the least busy line...

No. There is a disclaimer in the first couple posts of the thread that says I do not.

Skyview ranch is outside of the 30 db Noise Exposure Contour even with the new runway.

On the other hand, it is also about 20 kilometers outside the where-there-ought-to-be-city-scaled-residential-development contour.

Steel going up for the expansion of OBMF:
This will increase the inside storage capacity from 60 LRVs, to 108 LRVs.
It also should be noted that the new addition has slightly longer bays than the existing bays - allowing CT to order slightly longer LRVs in the future and still have room to store them in the building.

Have a look at what? If they were informed that there was a planned Crain station there?
Of course they were, since they got a discount on the house being built, or when they bought it, since that kind of thing needs to be disclosed.
Does that mean they might not be happy after it gets running? Maybe, but the reality is they knew about it.

I've got a question
I am new to Calgary and when I am at an LRT station there is a machine there to buy a ticket. Is there a way to buy more than one ticket at a time. You would think you could just hit the ticket button 2 or three times to get more as opposed to buying 4 tickets individually.
Is there something I am doing wrong? except taking the LRT that is.
Thanks

You're doing it wrong.
What you want is to buy a booklet of tickets, pre-paid, at a convenience store or the like. When you have one of those tickets one puts it into the slot in the machine at the station that is marked "validation". It stamps the station name and the time on the end of the ticket, and the ticket is good for 90 minutes.
If you're buying a ticket at a station, buy only one. The ticket is marked with the time and only good for 90 minutes. If you buy four tickets at a time they're still only good for 90 minutes from the time you bought them.

I understand the book of ticket thing but when i visited Calgary with my wife we couldn't buy two tickets at once in Washington for example you just tapped on th button two times and paid your 5 bucks.
In addition I was at the LRT and there was a group of 4 people (group) ahead of me and I don't know they were new to Calgary too and they were at both machines trying to buy tickets and were totally befuddled (train was also coming and of course I had to wait. I just think it is goofy that you can't buy 2, 3 4 tickets all at once while you are there as opposed to looking to buy tickets in Adv.
Unless you are buying a monthly pass I don't think there is any discount buying tickets in adv.
But again I am new I am probably wrong. I walk more often then take the LRT

Ah, I see what you're getting at.
Can't help you there, just something CT hasn't thought of or implemented yet.
They're just catching on to the idea of letting people pay with something other than exact change, they're a little slow, eh?
