The 7:30 and 11 always works. But half of the week I'm not home for a lunchtime visit outside, and the other half of the week I'm not home for a 5 pm/dinnertime visit outside. My life isn't set on a typical 9-5 m-f schedule, and all the routines I've seen are based around that, or on a family that always has someone at home, etc, and those just don't work for me.

Funny I just happened to be surfing and caught the Dog Whisperer on NatGeo channel.

Yeah, I set the DVR to catch the episode after this, though it's dealing with puppies, it covers house training, so hopefully it'll help me pick up something. There are just a load of issues, from the scheduling, to him being an adult dog, to him being a rescue with a bad history, to him being terrified of every noise he hears outside, etc.
I just need to hire a damn dog trainer, I think.

I had a similiar kind of situation. The solution? I noticed the neighbor teenager walking his dog. So I worked out a deal where he would stop in once a day and take my dog for a walk. Sometimes he would even visit the dog twice a day depending on my schedule.
But I knew this neighbor kid quite well so I trusted him. Not sure if you have somebody in the area like that.

On the LRT on the way to the game, I saw a woman of such beauty that it was like my mind was a bell resonating to the strike of joy; she was tiny with black pageboy-cut hair and wide-set tilted eyes of honeydark chocolate, all wrapped up in a wool jacket a size too large for her so that she appeared all the more delicate within it, as if the mere act of looking might cause her to break.
On the way back home in my brother's van, I saw two men outside the Mac's store on 7th and 8th chucking garbage onto the ground and laughing. I wonder if people like that ever know what they are missing by delighting in their own mindlessness.

Going out and getting drunk is a whole lot of fun. So much so that I'm going back to MacLaren's tomorrow night. Anyone wanting to do a CP meet and discover that I'm far less of an a-hole in real life is welcome to do so as long as you're willing to buy me booze. Oh, hell, you don't have to buy me booze but it would be greatly appreciated.
Also I finally got around to trying pizza and gravy for the first time tonight. It is truly phenomenal. I should have ordered a whole pizza like that instead of just a slice. Since I'm still hungry, I'm attempting to cook ravioli now. Hopefully I won't pass out before I finish cooking it.

A couple years ago, Brent Butt spoke at an autism conference in Saskatchewan. My aunt was there, and for some reason decided to get me his autograph. (I had never made an indication that I was a fan... )
That was the only time I ever got anyone's autograph... until this morning. I just recieved an autographed copy of Matthew Good's new album!! Woohoo!! I am going to get him to sign my chest when he comes to Calgary in November.

Rumours that Chuck might be airing new episodes on NBC by the end of the month make me very happy.

Witty, if you can't find a neighbor to help out (excellent suggestion, by the way), a few of my friends have had great success with puppy pads. There's something in them that encourages the dog to go where he's supposed to, instead of acidents all over the house.
Because your schedule will probably always be a little haywire, you could use them to train him to go in a litterbox, or, if you had a doggy door installed, encourage him to use it.

Didn't last year's season start after New Years? Agreed, amazing show, as much as I like Hugh Laurie, Brian Cranston was full value for his best actor emmy last year.

Witty, you don't necessarily need a set schedule, you just need to make sure you walk the dog at least three times per day. Four is preferable, but three will do. My pup survives off of a morning walk, an after work walk and a night walk. Obviously my work schedule is more consistent than yours, but you should still be able to give your dog a walk every eight hours or so. If you're doing an afternoon/evening shift, just make sure you walk her before and after work, and try to take the same route every time so that she knows how long the walk is, and that she needs to do her business during the walk.
Also, do alot of talking while you're walking her. While she's pissing or crapping, say to her "go outside" "gooood girl, go outside". She'll learn that taking care of business is "go outside". Eventually you'll be able to walk her and command her to "go outside" and she'll drop drawers and do her business.
But the walks are the most important thing. Walking makes dogs poo and pee. The first year with a dog is hard on both you and her, but if you make sure that you're giving her the walks she needs, it wont be long before you can cheat a little and skip a walk here and there because your life got in the way.
