Mariners had been getting really good pitching this year. Hernandez before this game had been the AL's best pitcher, better than Halladay even since May. Bedard when healthy has been solid and Jarrod Washburn has been good too. They also have Aardsma pitching great in the bull pen. But They just got killed by Cleveland in a 3 game set and they looked like the 77 Mariners tonight. I guess Russel Branyan is the glue that holds that team together!

Ev, congrats to your buddy and his family. He's from Victoria no? He did real well tonight. He has good speed-the bunt he laid. He's smart-the fake bunt then singled passed an encroaching Rolen. He has a good arm. And he made some nice catches in LF. So, congrats...
Vis-a-vis the game tonight, these types of games are so deceiving because we may sweep but that pushes us to 500. That is just the type of excuse JP needs to hold fast and not maximize assets when the opportunity presents its self. The jays can get a lot for Halladay since he will be able to effect 2 pennant races, thus increasing his value to the interested squad. But JP is a tricky devil with little trends to infer from. My gut says that we should hold out until next year and hope we can make a better more concerted effort -with less injuries fingers crossed. However, if this current team strings together a few wins (8) and that gets us back into the thick of things, then JP looks like a genius for holding onto Halladay.
I just don't think either scenario is plausible with our depth compared to other teams in our division. Yet, with the pitching we've been forced to acclimate to the pros, we may see tangible dividends next season. I hope Shawn Marcum returns to form.
And one more question, how come JP hasn't tried the buyers role come non-waiver trade deadline? This team could use another big bat in Left, yet I like Inglett's bat, and another gas throwing reliever for the pen, perhaps Heath Bell? He would cost a bit, but I could see us getting him for a couple prospects. If the pads want one of our promising pitchers who have made it to the bigs, out of necessity, then no. But, if they want a couple lower end prospects then yes. I think he could solve our Closer need and then you move Downs to set-up man. However, there are many flailing teams who have overworked bullpens that may posses a true gem: A's , Indians, Kansas City, Pitts, Cincy, Arizona, San Diego.

Well J.P's hands are tied budget wise for this year if he still has Halladay. Jays aren't going to win this year, but there is an intrinsic value to having guys like Romero, Cecil, the new Polish guy and even Marcum if this back injury doesn't set him back work alongside Halladay. So long as the team has Rios and Wells not moving the need for another outfield bat is short term with Snyder lurking. Even this off season hitting shouldn't be that tough to find at the market for what the Jays will really need.

Is anybody else getting sick of watching MLB Trade Rumours all day?
That game last night was brutal, now I remember why I hated watching ball in Vancouver so much. Jays games followed by Ms games. I made a comment at the bar last night about how it was so hard to watch the two teams with the worst RISP Avg in the league. Two minutes later the graphic comes up showing that they still have the two worst RISPs. Hurray for unclutch baseball! I was shocked at the giant 2 out rally that followed.
I miss Vancouver Canadian games though, at least they can play better D than the Ms (If only our softball team could).

Halladay to the Red Sox?
http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=285985
Good young pitcher, great outfield prospect and a 3rd prospect (don't know much about him). How do you think this compares with the Phillies counter of 4 prospects?
I'd love to see him go to the Sox because I despise the Yankees and never want to see them do good again.

The Phillies package seems to have more upside and likely is better overall.
Bucholz is a guy that seems to have ability but hasn't really been able to translate that at the MLB level. He is still young and obviously has time to improve but there are starting to be a lot of questions about just how good he will end up being. The excitement of his no-hitter last season is starting to wear off a bit as well. I also thought the Red sox had a better hitting prospect then Westmoreland but I can't think of his name right now. (I think it is an odd name).

The Red Sox would have to SERIOUSLY overpay to get Halladay. I think they know that and they are just doing their due diligence.
Ugh.....RISP, we suck.

Also, I hate, and I mean hate Scott Downs.
Can we trade him to some team for a baseball?

I hate Ichiro!
And Downs is no longer a closer. No idea why Cito keeps using him in close games.

Please JP.
Please don't let Roy Halladay suffer on this team for another half season. Please deal him to somewhere that can hit with runners in scoring position. Please trade him somewhere where he can have a chance to pitch in a playoff game. He deserves that much doesn't he?!
He has toiled in mediocrity long enough....please, just trade him to the Phillies.

That RedSox offer is pretty damn good, I'd be happy if the Jays took that one.

Just curious, but why do you say that? At this point in his career, Buckholtz is a potential #2. He has shown flashes of being a good pitcher, but very very inconsistent. I don't know what to think about him. As for what the prospects are like, I have no idea.

The O/F is supposed to be their no. 1 prospect and the other pitcher is a good prospect with an era of 3.09 in AAA. I would take a potential #2 and two good prospects for a guy that is gonna walk after next year.

Not the one...

Doc + Wells to the BoSox, damn the return.
Can't win with the guy.
I just keep thinking how much better these pitchers would be performing with an above average centrefielder (Rios) instead of a horrible one.

Looks like the Phillies are going to move on Cliff Lee, as talks have broken down between them and the Blue Jays.
Halladay to Boston is looking more likely.

Is Wells' fielding that bad, or is it just his hitting that's been the problem this year?
I've noticed he isn't the fastest guy out there, but I don't think he's costing us games in CF.

He's rated as the worst outfielder in baseball and has cost the team 21 runs over the season... (the math geeks worked it out)
