Another trade from last year, for a better player.
I never understood where all these crazy packages for a first rounder and a blue chip prospect came from. Hanifin is not worth that. We got essentially the same return as the Hronek and Chychrun deals. Why would Hanifin be worth more?
He is almost 27, coming off major surgery . He is a fill in scrub
I mean probably, but he is a relatively new convert to defense and has put up points in the AHL - over a ppg on his rehab stint this year. Maybe he ends up bringing something or maybe he just keeps keeps osterle in the press box.
I'll be glad to see all the delusional fantasy stuff dead. Deadline deals typically are underwhelming picks and Nothing Burgers for good but not great players. The deck is cleared and time to move forward.
I guess we hope for Edmonton to win the Division and Vegas to beat them in round one and completely come unglued the next two seasons.

The issue isn't so much the return. It's how the entire situation was handled. All of the noise that came with this trade impacted the value. It has been a trend with Conroy. The constantly changing direction early on, the Markstrom controversy, the Hanafin noise, etc.
It reminds me of Feaster with the Iginla mishap, O'Reilly controversy, etc.
Great GMs don't have this type of noise following them around. Hopefully Conroy can get it under control.
I have largely looked at Conroy's work since he took over as trying to fix the disastrous 2022 that Brad Treliving had.
I think he's done a fine job. Not a stellar job, but he was not in a position to succeed.
Now? Now he has a pretty blank canvas. He didn't make his situation worse with terrible extensions, and he still has a couple of pieces to sell (Kuzmenko, Markstrom, Mangiapane).
This is a rebuild, they can't hide from it. This is one of the deepest cutting sell-offs we've ever seen in a single season.
Converting UFAs in to assets
I like Sharangovich, and getting Kuzmenko in the return for checked out Lindholm isn’t bad. Gives me some faith in the pro scouts
Hanifin wanted out and had few destinations where he was willing to sign. I am confident many GMs were sniffing around Conroy last summer offering anchors and not life rafts
Looks good to me on the whole

Miromanov looks like a nothing player from his recent counting stats, but his AHL numbers are good. I'm curious to see what he's like because Conroy and his crew seem to have an eye on finding players that would rebound or thrive in a different situation.
People weren't sold on Sharangovich. People weren't sold on Kuzmenko.
Give this Miromanov kid a chance.
I don't think so. Sharangovich isn't the answer long term with elite talent. Kuzmenko isn't the long term talent we were looking for either. We need young elite talent plus guys like Sharangovich in the interim. Which other teams were touting Miromanov to justify this return? It just seems so backward. Couldn't have predicted this at all. Should have been compensated more with more beneficial conditions on our part. Conroy was played. Anyway, just hoping next years' UFAs are dealt soon as well. This deal has me raging. All risk and no immediate payback.

The noise doesn't seem to be coming from Calgary though is it? All the Markstrom stuff is coming from NJ, and we never heard diddly about a Vegas deal until it was pretty much done. All the Hanifin stuff was reportedly coming from his agent

I have no clue about him so I'm not going to judge him but I think I'm more upset with adding the extra conditions of the first rounder and retaining salary. Lottery protecting it I get but letting them trade it and bump it back another year?
This trade is horrible. Would rather have had Hanifin for the next 20 games and then nothing after. A 26 year old coming off of major surgery? That is nothing. Less than magic beans. Less than regular beans. Beanless! the Flames are beanless!
It almost feels like the board starts speculating and the insider tidbits seem to follow the collective guesses and desires of the board a little, if I'm being honest.
I’ve been pretty vocal return would be a 1st, prospect, and roster player. I’m even a little underwhelmed basis the conditions. Hope Vegas is bad in 26 I guess
