Yeah. The Dodgers pay him $2MM in cash and deposit $44MM in a bank account for him to have later. While I agree the tax angle is a bit dodgy that seems more like a problem for the California government to deal with not for MLB.

Ohtani was apparently courting Glasnow from the Rays before he even officially signed with the Dodgers. This is all BS. And seriously #### Ohtani. That dude is pulling a LeBron on the MLB right now.

Yeah, this whole thing has turned me off of baseball. League direly needs a salary cap, this is boring.

Too bad for him that in 2034 $680M will probably be something like 2% of the Dodgers value haha.

By most accounts he took a considerably less valuable contract from the Dodgers compared to what other teams were offering because that was where he wanted to be.
That doesn't seem like a very compelling argument for a salary cap.

Yeah I don’t get the outrage over Ohtani deferring his salary. Unless you’re a California taxpayer. Or maybe his agent.

I don't follow the Blue Jays prospects too closely, but instead of overpaying to keep Chapman in his declining years doesn't it make sense to give one of their prospects a chance? According to https://blogs.fangraphs.com/toronto-...-31-prospects/ 3 of the top 4 Blue Jays prospects play 3B. Two of them are old enough to be given a chance with the Blue Jays. That way they can save money at 3B and spend it elsewhere.

I agree, I really like Chappy but it's time to move on from him. His defense is good but his bat was pretty bad after the first few months of the season. Not point in giving him a nice big money deal. Let someone else do it. The kids showed they could play last year when given a chance.

Nimmala is too far away, Barger has been playing more LF lately and Orelvis is projected to be a 2B or corner OF long term. These guys can't really play a competent 3B at the MLB level much less replace a perennial GG candidate like Chapman.

Its a step in the right direction. Could have domino effect. If hes more focused off the field, probably means hes going to be more focused on the field

Let's hope.
The biggest off season acquisition the jays could make right now, would be to add a 6+ WAR MVP and HR title candidate, only the only realistic possibility of that is to have 2021 Vladdy resurface.

I wonder what the market for Chapman is like. Maybe teams aren't willing to shell out 20 million for a sub 760 OPS guy who can't make contact frequently and is not hitting for particularly good power.

Seems like a very reasonable deal. I would’ve thought he’d get more. For that believe would’ve signed him up.

No uniform has been bad so far. Given their identity they should have the best uniforms in the league. Hopefully it’s completely reimagined like the other ones we’ve seen so far.

Not sure who the sources are or how reliable it is.
I see the huge risk in giving Bellinger and Chapman the contracts they want, but part of me just says, EFF it, signing these two fills the teams two biggest needs and likely gives the Jays the best chance at winning for the next two years.
It keeps the OF and 3B defense at elite levels which gets the most out of the top 5 (on paper) pitching staff they have.
Let Biggio, Espinal, Schneider, etc battle it out for 2B, then sign a decent DH bat with power. Team is probably a shoe in for ~90 wins again, and if Vlad/Springer/Kirk bounce back with the bat they probably win 95 or more.
