Re: Mason
I have always liked him despite getting him getting flack. I think the way he moves to find space is still unmatched in the squad although Bevan has improved leaps and bounds in that and his pressing this year. I’m glad Mason isn’t being relied upon as the starter but I bet that he has had a big hand in Bevan’s big year behind the scenes. Nothing to base that off but he and Bevan always seem to be near each other and from afar get along well. It does seem like he’ll move on at the end of the year but I’m thankful for his contributions. I’d keep him if he wants to stay for another year in a bit role and be a mentor, but freeing up the international spot would be nice.
I do really like what Tommy has done the last few weeks with Mason and Fisk going out to kill the game with 10-15 minutes left. Those two are very smart players and are able to hold the ball in the corner and kill time like no one else

Maybe i have never actually looked at the seeding during playoffs (plus a new team added new seeding maybe?) but is this how playoff rounds work?
4 vs 5
3 vs (4 or 5)
1 vs 2
Winners play final?

It's a new system this year. If you're familiar with the Page Playoff system used in curling, it's basically the same.
Oct 11 - 4 vs 5
Oct 14 - 1 vs 2; 3 vs (winner of 4 vs 5)
Oct 21 - Semi-Final: (loser of 1 vs 2) vs (winner of 3/4/5)
Oct 28/29 - (winner of 1 vs 2) vs (winner of semi-final)

Still way too many tickets left. Drag your friends and family out!
Are they advertising this much at all? The weather is really great considering the time of year, and the team is the favourite in a playoff game. Seems like an easy opportunity to rope some new fans in.
On my "pictures from this day" from October 9th, I was greeted with us beating the Forge in the snow. The high was -4 that day.

Yeah, that's crazy how undersold this is. I really hope that changes as we get closer, but based on past trends I'd be surprised if they sold more than another few hundred this close.
The eye test on ticketmaster says about half full as of now. Darn.

This is going to be one of the best sporting events of the year in Calgary.

Calgarians aren’t used to cheering for a winning team I guess. No idea what to do. Playoffs?

I'm literally coming back early from my friend group's Fernie trip this week so that I can attend this game. They're all pissed AF, but I don't give a ####. Up the Cavs!

I haven't seen or heard anything. So I would assume just the usual OneSoccer and Fubo options.
It really is a shame that other broadcasters haven't sub-licensed some CPL matches. We have discussed it here before, but a homegrown, domestic soccer league fits perfectly within the CBC's mandate. And TSN/Sportsnet could easily pick it up as well, but we wouldn't want to cut into any poker or strongman competitions... on any of their multiple channels.
I am looking forward to being there on Saturday regardless. I hope that ticket sales pick up though. This really should be a 5k match given the weather, opponent, importance, etc.

CPL and OneSoccer don't want to give away the content for free. And broadcasters don't want to pay for CPL. Thus, the situation is what it is.
Saturday's game won't sell out but it will be significantly better than the 2927 that were there in 2021 and the 3179 that were there in 2022. Playoffs have been a tough sell in Calgary.

Playoffs are a tough sell for most 'minor sports teams." This goes, for example, for the Roughnecks and Wranglers, in addition to the Cavs.

It's such a bizarre minor league phenomenon. Is it just the pricing? I'm not sure how these playoff cavs tickets compare to regular season.
I know for the roughnecks that was always a barrier for my friend groups, the playoff price increase. We'd he excited and aay let's go, then you check ticketmaster and it's like $85 to sit in the upper corners of the second tier.

The prices seem like they're the same as the regular season?
In the past Cavalry sells most of their tickets a day or two before the game.

Maybe minor sports teams need to look at playoffs as a chance for an extra game of the same revenue as a regular season game instead of adhering to major sport leagues and thinking it's a chance to jack prices up to score major revenue.
Especially because minor sports are all about price point for lower income fans/families and even $10 more per ticket can leave hundreds of families saying "ah no, I like going but we have a budget".

Increased pricing is a small part of it, but more than that it's more that it is tough to get groups out to games in a limited time period. Your men's ball team might look a couple months out and go to, say, a Dawgs game. Lots of minor soccer folks of course @ Cavs games, and might plan that out months in advance. Trying to pull all that together in a couple weeks is really tough.
During the regular season, the minor teams often sell tickets dozens at a time. Usually during playoffs, it's 1 or 2 at a time.

Not a lot of people at tonight's Pacific / York playoff game either. Not that a Wednesday night playoff game with only a few days to sell tickets would draw well, but the stadium is 2/3 empty.

Somewhat true, but the Roughnecks had 17000+ for the final championship game in 2019. It was bedlam.
