Everyone here that has posted dismissing it is doing it because they understand the facts and reality of these negotiations. We aren't going to waste time discussing options that are either not a possibility (him signing with another team) or highly unlikely (him signing outside of the NHL).

We are worried about the holdout scenario and souring the relationship between Johnny and the Flames. At the end of the day, we all want the max term for Johnny.

The reason is straightforward.

Then the entire city would go on strike and refuse to work until Johnny is returned. Then the stampede would be cancelled next year. Plus the bow river would have its worst flood of ever.

I'm sure Brad Treliving has thought about all this. He knows what would happen if he lets Gaudreau go.

^ thanked for the Stampede being cancelled ranking as a little worse than everyone in the city going on strike.

Seriously? this board doesn't discuss unlikely possibilities? Hahahaha! is this your first day on this forum?

It really depends on the willingness and resolve of both parties though. if Johnny is unwilling to follow though, it is indeed an empty threat.
I think the Flames would be more worried of a threat that he signs a full time $11,000,0000 contract with Pepsi to do commercials all day rather than signing in Russia, simply because it is more realistic.

The Flames still need Johnny as part of the team. He's a game changer and a rare bread. The holdout is the most effective bargaining tool.

If we start the season and go 0-10 without Johnny, what would be the perception of management?

Well, there is a possibility of his hair catching on fire working with Pepsi.

I thought maybe with the news updates, this thread would get a little more realistic with the conversations and scenarios.

Instead, it's actually gotten more ridiculous.

He`s not going to Europe or Russia. That stance is far more effective in negotiations if the player is actually from there.

They seem like a pretty tight knit family and that`s going to be a tough sell. There were articles with his parents saying it was tough watching him play in a western time zone and so far away. How he going to explain that to momma Gaudreau. Just a short plane ride to Russia to catch a game? I think both sides are well aware that`s not a real option.

He`ll be on the Flames roster. I don`t think it`s a matter of if but when. I wouldn`t be too surprised if he actually misses a couple of regular season games.

Tough situation for both sides. Johnny wants to get paid and I think he`s earned it. The Flames also can`t just cave in and give him whatever he wants. They do that and they`ll be shooting themselves in the foot in the near future. If any players like Bennett for example have a breakout year, this will be used as a precedent for their contracts.

So now that this thread is 65 pages it is getting hard to find information, so perhaps it is time to start a new one

A simple remark made as a possible negotiation tactic is blown up into "Johnny's going to Russia"... that's the internet.
It's worse than a bunch of 13 year old girls sometimes.

Stay strong BT, don't let an idiot agent call the shots. I rather see Gaudreau sit the entire season than sign a contract that will wreck the cap for the next decade.

Maybe Treliving decided to hire McGrattan to pick Lewis Gross up by his ankles and shake him just to see what comes out.

I hear this is a valid negotiating tactic.*

It might, if Johnny Gaudreau was Russian. Like Tarasenko.

It was a ridiculous comment.

If you want to make a comment like that, be prepared to be called on it.

As several people have pointed out, there is no way he would go to Russia, therefore it isn't a great negotiating tactic. But you just kept hammering away at it anyway.

And now you're calling people 13 year old girls when it was you that brought the silliness.

I think it's totally valid. People are free to disagree, but if they're going to, do it so disrespectfully. they deserve to be called out on that too.

Do you honestly think that doing something 'just as a screw you to BT and the Flames' is a valid negotiating tactic? (serious question)
