Miami's the best team in their conference and MSU just handled them.

For a defense first guy who is suposed to have limited offensive abilities it seems like Ramage has been potting some key goals the last few weeks.

Yeah.
What I have liked is that so many of these guys - Ramage, DeBlouw, Gaudreau, Gillies, Wotherspoon - all seem to come up big in big games. Hopefully they can keep it coming.

A little off topic, but Matthew Gaudreau is draft eligible this year. Unfortunately, he hasn't put up a fraction of the points Johnny did at his age.
Johnny had 72 points in 60 games in the USHL in his draft year. Matthew only has 22 points in 52 games.

I thought I read Matthew was going to BC as well. Hard to imagine he'd actually make that team with the numbers he's putting up in the USHL and his size.
If Matthew doesn't play at BC, does that accelerate Johnny's desire to turn pro?

He will probably play another year of USHL, so Johnny would probably want to wait until senior year to see if his brother ends up with BC or not.

If Matthew doesn't get drafted, perhaps the Flames offer him a spot at a development camp.

This is already Matthew's second year of USHL hockey and the 22 points were scored last season. This year he has 16 points so he's not improving stats wise. I think he goes to BC next season, especially if they want Johnny back.

The way playoffs work in Finland is that 6 teams get straight in and 4 teams play a best of 3 pity series to determine who are the final 2 to get to the proper playoffs.
HIFK finished 8th in the league and tonight they beat Saipa in their series, so the playoffs continue for Ortio and Granlund.
Ortio's stats in the regular season: 54g, 23-9-20, 2.42gaa, 91.65sv, 4 shutouts.
He also won the (tabloid paper) Ilta-sanomat player of the year for having acquired the most star selection points in their reviews this year, beating the league MVP Antti Raanta, for example, which suggests that he's been very important to his team.
http://www.iltasanomat.fi/sm-liiga/a...547970504.html
Ortio's playoff stats so far: 3g, 2-0-1, 2.19gaa, 94.12sv.
Granlund's regular season stats: 50g, 10+20=30 points, +3. Not bad, Joel Armia for example had 33 points, but without having seen him play much, it's tough to say how his development has been going.
I think he had the flu and missed the first two playoff games, but he got an assist in tonight's win. Seems like he centered the third line.

BTW, while a tabloid award might not sound like much, Ilta-Sanomat actually has one of the better sports sections in Finland, and SM-liiga is their main focus. So, this is really good in my books actually.

Great stuff and proud of his development. Would like to see him dominate another year in Finland before coming over.

That he received so many star selections in the paper says at least as much about Ortio's team as it does about him. But on the other hand, you could say that without his contribution the team wouldn't be in the playoffs at all. Would be nice to see what kind of numbers he could put up on a good team.
Granlund's pass on the goal was nice, but he also lost his guy on Saipa's second goal:
http://www.ruutu.fi/ohjelmat/sm-liig...-saipa-1732013
Next up for them is Barkov and Nieminen's Tappara. They will almost certainly lose, but we'll see if HIFK can put up a fight.

I'm curious to see how Ortio does in training camp. I guess it will depend on his progress and what goalies we keep as to where he ends up but with him over in Finland I get the impression that he isn't a priority. I'd like to hear management give honest comments on some of our prospects.

The playoffs start tonight in Finland, and the other main tabloid Iltalehti writes that the key players in the Tappara-HIFK series will be Alexander Barkov and Joni Ortio.
http://www.iltalehti.fi/smliiga/2013...06298_sm.shtml
The general idea is that Ortio will have to play a perfect series for his team to have a chance to win.
