He hasn't been able to play, but they haven't needed his cap space, and from what I read they will put him on LTIR if and when they need to.

I never said they were panicking.
I thought my replies were all in a measured, hopefully friendly tone.

Seravelli said recently that he believes the Flames plan to put him on LTIR soon

That's funny. When I went to a Wranglers game a couple of weeks ago I came away with the same opinion. Zary was a guy I was looking forward to watching and he left me wondering what all the fuss was about. Like you, I assumed it was an off night or maybe an injury. You can't argue with his production this year though.

I never called you a moron, I said it seems lame to take the worst possible interpretation of what we could generously call “vague” reporting and then react to that interpretation as though it’s reality. Do you disagree and think that reacting to the worst possible interpretation of vague comments is cool and fun? Nice for you if so.
If I was going to call you a moron I think most people here can attest that I would just call you a moron. But I don’t think you are.

I'd definitely trade Toffoli before I'd trade Backs or Lindholm. And I like Toff

I would trade Lindholm first, Toffoli second, Backlund third.
I’d trade them all…but I’d do it in that order.

Prices for premium pieces will still be high at the draft, the acquiring team can extend them thus upping their value, and there will be lots of excess draft capital that the blues and caps of the world will be looking to buy players with. The market will still be strong in an off season re-tool. Last year Debrinkat, Dach and Romanov all went for high picks. This year, I think there will be even more opportunity at the draft as a seller.
So why give up on the playoffs now if the market stays more or less the same? The value multiplier of staying in the game and trying to bust through is high, not just for the fun of winning, but also for player value. Markstrom could erase his first 3/4 of the season with a scorching hot last quarter. Mangiapane could show his value around the league is still high as a clutch goal scorer. And if all else fails and they miss, Toffoli will still have the rep as a 30 goal productive winger, Hanifin will still be a solid skating PMD who puts up 40-50 points, Backlund and Lindholm will both be still well regarded as trade chips. Tanev will still be thought of as the warrior that can fix on an entire Defensive unit. You just have more mobility to move guys in my mind.
The other thing is that people are looking at lessons of the past and saying, we must sell. I think that's true, but the other lesson from the past here is that if you believe in a player, lock them up even if they just had an off year. It's what people kept bringing up over and over with Johnny and Tkachuk. In Johnny's case it was 3 bad years. So if you think Lindholm is a true number 1 C in the shape of Bergeron, get the deal done now. If you like Backlund on a low cost retirement deal, do it! If you think Hanifin is a Defensive anchor that will be solid for years, sign him! And trade whoever you are unsure about.
|
You were getting 4 years of service from Dach, 2 years of service from DeBrincat and 4 years for Romanov. They are examples of why you trade guys with term, they have a higher value.

He makes the most sense.
If it’s a retool, so do Mangiapane and Dube. And just based on age, then you start to look at Backlund.
We don’t have much in the pipeline but Toffoli/Mangiapane/Dube are going to be the easiest to replace while fetching you the most.
I like Coleman, but I can’t imagine you get enough for him to make it worth the trade.

Also, rumblings that Tom Wilson is available?
That’s a guy with one year left on his deal that I would love the Flames to grab somehow.

Prediction Time:
To BOS: Milan Lucic (50% retained)
To CGY: 2023 3rd round pick (BOS), 2023 7th round pick (LA)
At least one of Toffoli, Lindholm, Hanifin, Backlund gets traded and the Flames gain an extra 2023 1st round pick in the process (+whatever).

Can Boston take on 2 more players? Toffoli and Looch are buddies. Send them as a package!

I agree with this. IMO you could look at moving whoever gets the best return out of
Backlund
Toffoli
Mangiapane
Coleman
Dube
I assume that we are only considering a re-tool, not a rebuild so can't make sense trading Lindholm until we know if he wants to test free agency or not.
Unless Dube gets by far the best return, I'd keep him as moving out his deal might not fix the cap next year.
Vladar also would be someone to look at. Might be stuck but I'd love to see Wolf split with Markstrom and it would also be a huge help of the cap.

Those players are all RFA at the end of their deals. UFA players with term are a drag on their team. That’s why Klingberg has some value. Not an anchor contract.

Why??? Lucic shouldn’t be in the Flames line up, how on earth would Boston get him in there’s???

With no scratches apparent for tonight I don't think anything is imminent. The team is waiting until tomorrow to make the hard decisions. Tre no doubt has many irons in the fire but he's waiting to get what he wants and nothing is decided yet.
